Hidden Forest Podcast Episode 2, originally released on August 12, 2012, continues the raw momentum of the Melbourne underground scene. This episode is part of the legendary Hidden Forest podcast series — a defining sound of the era, just before the mainstream Melbourne Bounce wave took over.

At the time, the local scene was still deeply underground — fuelled by word-of-mouth, dimly lit clubs, and a close-knit group of artists and ravers who lived for the sound. This series captured the early pulse of what would become a cultural movement across Melbourne and beyond.

This mix was crafted by JDG & Samual James, two of the standout selectors of the time, delivering that signature raw, gritty, hypnotic minimal vibe. Heavy grooves, filthy basslines, and that unmistakable early 2010s Melbourne sound.

In a dissonant city loop where rooftop lights glitch and club basses never sleep, this track fuses cybertrap grit with hyperpop chaos. Set in a 6/8 time signature and rooted in D minor, it weaves a dual vocal narrative between male talk-singing and raw female rap. The male voice shifts from airy falsetto to chest-grounded sarcasm, while the female delivery slices through with low-register contralto grit — one word per bar, cadence tight and cold.

Genre-defying and emotionally loaded, the beat pulses with sawtooth swells, bubbly arpeggios, and ambient trap haze layered over hard-hitting 808s. The story moves through party realism, Gen Z slang, and urban survival — a fragmented night where nothing feels real, but everything hits deep.
