This morning, we are gathered on [Gadigal] Country and we acknowledge and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

I pay my respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have contributed to the defence of Australia in times of peace and war, and I would also like to acknowledge all current and former members of the Australian Defence Force here with us today, as well as the family members of Defence personnel.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice, and thank you to the families of our Defence personnel for all your contributions and the support you provide to your loved ones.
Today, we gather with reverence and solemnity to commemorate a significant chapter in our nation's history, a chapter that embodies the courage, sacrifice, and indomitable spirit of our Australian service men and women. On this hallowed occasion of Anzac Day, we come together to honour their legacy and to reflect upon the profound impact their actions have had on our nation and the world.

Anzac Day holds a special place in our collective consciousness, a day that goes beyond mere remembrance – it is a day of deep contemplation and gratitude. Another Fight To Win  For Veterans returning from war

The U.S. House of Representatives considers H.R.828, the Successful Entrepreneurship for Reservists and Veterans Act, on February 26, 2025.

The bipartisan bill, also known as the SERV Act, aims to help veteran small business owners. It is led by Rep. Sharice Davids (D-Kansas), a citizen of the Ho-Chunk Nation and the only Native woman serving in the U.S. Congress.

"Veterans have the skills and dedication to build successful small businesses, but they need better support when transitioning from service to entrepreneurship," said Davids. "As the daughter of a veteran, I’ve seen firsthand the commitment and resilience they bring to everything they do. I'm proud to work across party lines to ensure veterans can access the resources they deserve and overcome the challenges that stand in their way."

According to Davids, the SERV Act:
* Commissions a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on the ability of veteran and reservist small business owners to access credit. This includes a new analysis on common sources of credit and how deployment and other military responsibilities affect veterans' and reservists' credit.
* Requires the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development to develop an action plan for outreach and promotion of the many programs available to veterans looking to transition into the business world.
* Requires the task force to report annually to Congress on its appointments and outline its plan for outreach on the many programs available to veterans, service-disabled veterans, reservists, and their spouses.

The House passed the bill under a suspension of the rules. The procedure is typically used for bills with widespread support.

Every three days a South Carolina Veteran commits suicide. PTSD is a major source of this tragedy. Hoofprints in the Sand is a non-profit organization that uses equine therapy to assist those with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. Sarah Lustig is the CEO & Founder of Hoofprints in the Sand and provided background on the services the organization offers and how they use horses in treatment. Ann O’Brien, a counsel with Hoofprints share the ways that clients respond to this unique treatment. The organization is hosting their annual “Denim & Diamonds” fundraising gala on Saturday, March 15 to raise needed funds to assist in their mission. The pair gave specifics on the event and how tickets can be purchased.

GUEST: Joe Debney, Executive Director
ISSUE: Community Service
Summerville is one of the fastest growing areas in the Lowcountry and the Summerville Family YMCA is working to stay ahead of that growth. Joe Debney is the Executive Director of the YMCA and spoke of how he was first a member and volunteer with the organization before becoming Executive Director. Debney detailed the many programs the YMCA offers, beyond just exercise and physical fitness, and showcased how the nonprofit has immersed itself in the community. The Executive Director highlighted two specific programs that he believes people aren’t aware of. And Debney provided specifics on two upcoming fundraising events, the March 15 Shamrock Shuffle, and the YMCA’s biggest fundraising event, the annual Flowertown Festival, April 4-6.

Introducing Ryan Fox, a roots/rock singer songwriter from  Kent, England. His unique, popular sound and poetic, witty lyrical style draws from influences as diverse as early Dylan to Noel Gallagher, from Johnny Cash to Elton John, from Bruce Springsteen to Stephen Sondheim.
 
Ryan's songs have reached the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest and been featured on the Disabled People Against Cuts website. He has played the Acoustic Sessions at Rainham three times and Tunbridge Wells’ The Forum twice.
 
Ryan had classical piano lessons from an early age and picked up a guitar at uni, his early influences including Oasis, Coldplay and, naturally, The Beatles. He developed his songwriting in his 20s, largely owing to meeting musical guru Dr Richard Niles, who pushed Ryan out of his comfort zone to explore fresh sonic/lyrical ground - to try new things.
 
Ryan will commence gigging again in early 2025, having taken a hiatus to concentrate on being a new dad.
