Meta rejects EU AI pledge. In a surprising move, Meta announced that it will not sign the European Union's voluntary artificial intelligence safety pledge. This pledge, designed to regulate AI development ahead of the EU's AI Act taking full effect in two thousand twenty-seven, has been embraced by other tech giants like Microsoft and Google. Meta's decision is primarily influenced by its open-source AI model, Llama, which complicates compliance with the pledge's requirements. This refusal highlights the ongoing challenges of regulating the rapidly advancing AI landscape.

Intel flexes new AI chips. In a bid to strengthen its foothold in the artificial intelligence chip market, Intel unveiled two new chips: the Xeon six CPU and the Gaudi three AI accelerator. The Xeon six boasts double the performance of its predecessor and features enhanced core counts and memory bandwidth. Meanwhile, the Gaudi three is tailored for large-scale generative AI applications, featuring sixty-four tensor processor cores and a staggering one hundred twenty-eight gigabytes of memory. Intel claims these new chips will offer competitive performance against Nvidia's leading products, which currently dominate the market.

Microsoft invests $1.3 billion in Mexico's tech leap. In an effort to aid AI infrastructure and digital education, Microsoft is making a significant investment of one point three billion dollars in Mexico over the next three years. This initiative aims to train five million people in artificial intelligence skills and assist thirty thousand small businesses in their digital transformation. As part of this plan, Microsoft will also partner with Viasat to provide internet access to underserved communities. This investment illustrates a commitment to driving inclusive growth in Mexico.

ChatGPT's voice gets smarter. OpenAI has rolled out an Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT, which is available to Plus and Team users. This upgrade includes five new voices and enhancements for better accent understanding and more dynamic conversations. Users can even interrupt ChatGPT mid-sentence, allowing for a more engaging and natural interaction. With this update, OpenAI continues to push the boundaries in making conversational AI feel more human-like.
