This track was composed on a friends farm one day while I was tending his garden. It is an older recording, and a little rough, but a good performance remastered. Recorded around 1990 0r so.

Nature

This track was composed and recorded around 1983 or so, and may be a collaboration with Charles Ellis when we had a band called 326. I am not 100% sure of this, but I want to give credit where it is deserved.

Chemical Dreams 2.2 Revisited

This piece although just composed hearkens back to the late 70's electronica. The complexity of the rhythms barely hangs together, but manages to carry this piece to a time a few decades ago.

Shifting Sands

This is a remix of a piece I created around 1987 or so and is mostly a nice big analogue Roland synth sound with a lot of other textures and a nice dark industrial melody on top.

This is a light and optimistic Berlin School track hearkening back to a mid 70's style of playing

This is a collection of tracks from my first ever band which was started in 1990, was mostly active until 1994 then made a few sporadic recordings until 1999.
 Initially a covers band with no vocalist, we transitioned into recording original instrumentals at home on an old Fostex X-15 1980s 4-track, using plenty of experimentation/innovation to get the most out of just 4 tracks. Common Road were myself, Matt McGain, Cliff Poole and Tim McGain. I will periodically add further tracks - enjoy!

John Rose is a composer working out of Lexington, Kentucky. John has worked for many years doing live radio, outdoor festivals, art openings and planetarium performances. John has been a pioneer of electronic music in Kentucky since the 1970s. He continues to work on solo recordings, and is a sound tech and stage hand. He recently started recording and producing music for other people. John also loves to teach wilderness survival and awareness and has been doing so at camps and workshops around Kentucky and Tennessee.

John Rose’s music is created primarily from his own experiences, what he calls “life’s soundtracks”. He utilizes elements from his diverse musical background, which includes early music (especially the Medieval and pre-Renaissance era), Baroque (owing to his direct musical lineage to J.S. Bach through oral teaching tradition), Middle Eastern Music, Gregorian chant, traditional Celtic and Appalachian music, and experimental electronic music.

Music and musicians who are of interest to John Rose are J.S. Bach, Arvo Part, Tangerine Dream, Dead Can Dance, Gregorian chant, Cantigas de Santa Maria, Alan Stivell, Morton Subotonic, John Jacob Niles, Debussy, and Chopin. He considers Nature and Silence to be the foundation of all music.

John’s music is timeless and pensive, interwoven with images of nature, expressive rhythms, deep space pulses, and industrial ambience. Other compositions contain intricate piano passages dancing across waves of geometric ostinatos.

“Music is structured in silence and has its foundations in the rhythm of nature, out of which springs the language of humanity and reflections of the energy of life. I wish to express this to the listener through my music.”
