Note: In my personal experience, this type of music usually doesn't get played out in clubs much so I wanted to share some of my personal collection that showcases a certain sentimental value within the electronic atmosphere. After several recent affirmations with just how fragile life is and how I'm coping with said fragility, it only made sense to make this mix. It contains the meaningful work of artists that I feel often goes unnoticed in the dance scene; this is not to undermine them but to honor them, as it is apparent to me that each of these humans most definitely understand the human experience, painful journey and the mystical healing power–which any and all music contains. Most relevantly, this mix is dedicated to our friend Ben. He was a lover of music and was somebody I knew because of music. May the gift of music continue to allow us the keys to open the various doors in life forever. Stay strong, you.

The first episode is about starting – starting to be confident and doing what you're passionate about✨

For a long time, I wanted to do something with music. I love vinyl records, and I have my own collection, but I always listened to them by myself. Meanwhile, my friends kept asking me about new music recommendations. Some praised my taste in music, and others asked me to record a vinyl mix… But I kept putting it off, finding hundreds, if not thousands, of reasons not to do it. I think many of you can relate to this, haha 😂

One day, I wondered why I kept delaying… and I have to admit, it was fear. Fear that no one would listen to the mix, fear of what people would think since I'm not a professional musician… Then I thought, life is passing by, and I'm not doing what I truly want. This realization pushed me to start this music blog and share the music I love 🔊

So, I dedicate this first episode to everyone who is afraid to start. Don't be afraid, because an exciting journey might be ahead 🙂

Hi! My name Oleg. I love electronic music. I've been into DJing for over 20 years.  This is my favorite hobby.  Through the sounds of music I feel my touch to God. Since earliest childhood i was into music & the turntable & vinyl of my parents. My father initiated my addiction to vinyl finally by starting to let me select a record at the age of 6 years. Since then i bought music on vinyl. When i started visiting clubs with 15 & was experiencing the gay scene, i often brought some of my house records to an event & asked the, dj if he knows these or could play them - they did & after a few times they handed me the headphone & said "do it yourself, you're welcome" (ultimate thanks to 'Ralf Auge', Toby Geier & Ludger Werb at this point - you lit the spark in the clubs or let me 'practice' at your homes). Thinking about these first steps into djing makes me smile with a bit of melancholy... this is an experience that is hard to imagine these days.

With my first own earned money at age 16 or 17 i finally bought 2 turntables, a mixer, a headphone & started to mix at home with the records i bought until then. I began giving my mixtapes to other djs, that did own parties in town & i got often the possibility to play. In 2006 i took a break from djing for 6 or 7 years. Vinyl production dropped, many labels switched to digital format - something i never was interested in, not even in cds. In 2013 i recognized, that vinyl was ready for a big return to the market.

My vinyl library expands meanwhile a 7000+ records & is still rising. If you hear anything here that you like, let me know.

Starting from New York CITY’s block parties CALLED JAMS of the late ‘70s AND EARLY 80'S that birthed many of NYC’s HIP HOP AND dance legends, DJ Bonds came up alongside many of these greats, playing at events and clubs as the crossover between house, disco, electro, and hip hop gradually took different turns for different artists. Early experiences at Adam’s Apple, Baseline, and Copacabana led to bigger events featuring A-list hip hop talent like MC Lyte,KRS 1, Slick Rick AND MANY MORE while hip hop and house music remained mutually relevant. After earning the respect of Grandmaster Flash, Red Alert,PARADISE LAMUMBA & Professor X OF X Clan,THE GREAT Bobby E Davis of S.U.R.E. Record Pool, and others, Bonds went on to work with RUPAUL & Larry Tee, Ralph McDaniels VIDEOMUSIC BOX, David Bowie, Blondie, Terence Trent D’Arby,PUBLIC ENEMY and more and earned a residency at the legendary The World club. He became good friends with Larry Levan during these heady days, but the closure of the Paradise Garage in 1987, hip hop’s drift into hardcore away from its disco and funk roots, and the departure of friends like Levan and Robert Owens signalled changing times. Following the 1989 Happy Lands fire and the closure of The World and other clubs he played at the time, Bonds left for Detroit.

Motown initially proved underwhelming after New York, then the unquestioned club music capital of the world with unparalleled club infrastructure and technology. An early meeting with Al Ester led him to Ken Collier on ROBERT Owens’ recommendation, and after seeing Collier at Heaven he found something that compared to NYC. Ester introduced him to Norm Talley: the three have been friends ever since, but practical matters took precedence as he earned his audio engineering degree at the Recording Institute of Detroit, raised his family, and recovered from serious health problems . In the 30 years he’s known Ester and Talley, they’ve produced their own parties and helped keep DJ Bonds abreast of new music through his semi-retirement. Since 2020, he has played alongside Norm at Motor City Wine in Detroit, rebuilt his studio and again began producing his own music, while remaining dedicated to the vinyl ethos he learned from his heroes Grandmaster Flash and Larry Levan. Combining 4 DECADES of DJing and studio experience from two of the most important cities for dance music, DJ Bonds is returning to his first love with veteran experience and undiminished passion looking towards the future.
