Last weekend, the  @JPIIHealingCenter   hosted the first-ever Restored Men’s Healing Conference, and it was powerful. Men from all over the country (and even other countries!) showed up with open hearts, some for the very first time. These were men who had been silently suffering for years—dealing with wounds from abandonment, addiction, rejection, or just feeling like they’re not enough. Over the weekend, we watched God work in incredible ways as men opened up, shared their stories, and allowed Christ to step into those broken places. It was humbling and hopeful.

In this episode, Victor and I unpack some of the key takeaways from the conference and dive deep into the struggles many of us face but rarely talk about. We’ll cover why we feel like we need to hide our pain, how self-reliance is a trap, and most importantly, how God’s grace can reshape the broken parts of our lives.

If Kenny Rogers, Santa Claus, and a Northern California almond farmer rolled into one man and started singing 1980s synth pop, that would be me. Most people know me as Mike, MDRJR, or Uncle Mike.

My story is rooted in resilience. My father abandoned me when I was just three years old, so I was raised by my mother, grandmother, sister, and uncles. One of them, a humble almond farmer who lived to 95, taught me the value of patience, care, and dedication. I treat my songs the same way he treated his orchards, with love and persistence that feeds the soul.

I have been writing songs for over 35 years, blending 80s synth pop, post punk, reggae, blues, and country rock into music that carries both emotion and memory. I write from scars that came from being abandoned, doubted, and told to conform. It took me 51 years to finally believe in myself, and now I write to help others believe sooner, heal faster, and hold on to their worth.

I am not chasing fame. I am building a movement. My music exists to fight hopelessness, to give people strength in their darkest hours, and to prove that authentic songs connect across every border. In just one year of sharing consistently on SoundCloud, my songs have reached millions of plays around the world.

When I perform live, my dream is for the whole crowd to sing with me, because these songs are not mine alone. They belong to the world. They belong to anyone who needs hope, healing, and strength to keep going.
