We’ve been fans of the Jakarta based label Divisi 62 since Uwalmassa’s Animisme EP in 2017. The releases on the label circle a community of adventurous musicians who create future leaning percussive electronic music, while sustaining a long and rich tradition of archipelagic music. The label defines their ongoing project as “a continual construction of the Indonesian identity, emphasizing a cross-wiring of world heritage.” For this show, the label’s founder Harsya Wahono has put together a mix of contemporary sounds from artists who orbit the label. Harsya performs and composes solo works and is also part of Uwalmassa and Zatua who released an incredible EP on Second Circle a few years ago. Most of the sounds on the mix are from unreleased and live recordings, emphasizing performance as an integral part of this musical community. We’ll hear recordings of Harsya’s own groups as well as emerging artists, relatively unknown outside of the local circuit.
