What is Temperature Mapping Study?
Temperature study is mainly applicable for pharma and consumer goods which require controlled temperature. It is essential to keep many of the medicines, cosmetics, health supplements etc. under certain temperature conditions.

As an example, medicine distributors keep many of their medicines between 2 and 8 Degree Celsius. If we keep this medicine at room temperature for couple of days, it will lose its medicinal properties. The same is applicable for many other items.

Hence the whole sale and retail distributor keep such items in temperature controlled warehouses, cold rooms, walk in freezers etc. The challenge for such areas to ascertain whether the temperature is uniformly within the limits at all the time. This is applicable during the transportation also. We will consider storage of a medicine in a cold room within 2 to 8 degree Celsius.

Also we have to transport this medicine in a van which maintain same temperature range. In the cold room there will be multiple cooling units. They reduce the temperature and maintain the temperature. However it may not be clear whether all nook and corners of the cold room are within this temperature range.

In order to check this, we carry out a series of tests. These tests collectively are known as temperature mapping study. We carry out recording of temperature across the entire area under different test conditions.

For this purpose, we place numerous electronic temperature recorders across the entire area. Prior to the test, there will be a protocol of temperature mapping study, which explains methodology and the sequence of the tests.

We will collect the readings for couple of days and will analyze. We carry out the tests under different conditions such as empty, partially loaded and loaded conditions. Also we check the effects of opening of the doors, power failure etc. 

The complete tests will give an idea about various performance aspects of the asset. The mapping study report will include all such analysis, recommendations for SOP, recommendations for placing sensors for regular recording etc.

It is necessary to carry out similar temperature mapping study for the distribution van as well. Otherwise the distributor will be keeping the medicines in the cold room at correct temperature. Subsequently if the van does not maintain the proper temperature, it spoils the medicine. 
Temperature mapping study is applicable to warehouses, cold rooms, walk-in-freezers, active cooling boxes, vans, refrigerated trucks, refrigerators etc.
