This song is about realizing that God is answering your prayers, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. We ask for strength and He gives us battles. We ask for patience and He gives us waiting. We ask for wisdom and He lets us walk through pain that teaches us. Even Jesus didn’t skip His preparation. He faced the wilderness before the cross. So this song is a reminder: not every storm is an attack. Sometimes it is the answer. Sometimes God is shaping you into the person you were called to be giving you the skills you prayed for

In this episode of Eastmans Elevated Brian Barney sits down with Marlon Holden. Marlon finds consistency year after year on good bucks. Along with that he also harvested his first bull elk this season. The guys visit about some of his recent hunts and then get into what it takes to find success. They visit about the changing landscape of western hunting and how to adapt to it and enjoy the now. They also talk about what they are currently working on and thinking about. The return of “Hunters in the Glen” does not begin with lightness, but with the breath of the world I sang about in the original: a wilderness where blades are sharpened, traps lurk in the ferns, and every step shifts the boundary between hunter and hunted. In my new rock ballad, I revisit this very core and translate it into a rougher, more powerful musical language.

My lyrics, with their images of sharpened blades, fleeing shadows, and wounded game, have always been imbued with tension and archaic energy. This new edition allows these motifs to emerge even more directly. The guitars carry the hardness of the blades, the bass beats like a heart in the night, and the drums trace the footsteps in the undergrowth. Each line takes on a new musical weight.

The ballad condenses the world of my original. The proud stag slipping away like a ghost in the twilight, the doe whose breath flickers, the moment when steel flashes between fern leaves — all these images carry the same urgency as before, only now they echo in a more intense, rock atmosphere. What was previously narrative tension becomes physical force here.

In the bridge moment, when the trap remains silent and the decision is made, the energy builds that only rock can carry in this form. The song doesn't just follow an old trail, it transforms it. The hunt becomes a heartbeat, the run through the shadows a call to one's own perception.

So for me, this reinterpretation is not merely a remake. It is a conversation with myself, with the history of my song. A step back into the same forest — only today I see it differently, deeper, darker, more immediate.

“Hunters in the Glen” thus becomes a renewed call into the wilderness, stronger, rougher, and closer to the heart than ever before.
