It's a song god damn it it's supposed to have metaphors. This is a metaphor for the metaphor rotten potato. And its feeling of being so down in the ground that nothing feels like it can be fixed. Someone literally planted a rotten potato for it to rot more there. That's how the metaphor "My life is like a withering rose" came to life. From the potato.
