I Don’t Think I Deserved This

A three-piece band from Ramsdean, near Petersfield, self-released the EP demo "Potatoes for Pleasure", as a limited edition of 200 cassette in July 1990 and so, we discovered The Lovelies. Four years later they recorded and released this track, "Somer Runner" via German label Meller Welle Produckte [MEL08]. Thieves of Dreams were an early '90s, Aldershot 4-piece, who were sometimes referred to as T.O.D or TOD, may have derived their name from the line ‘Play our music for the thieves of dreams” from Reluctant Stereotypes’ track “M.O.D.”. "Ghosts By My Side" to the best of our knowledge was never released, but as recently 2022 there were still rumors of possible new releases. The Salt Tank, electronic / trance trio from Guildford, started with just Gates and Stanners who had embraced acid-house in the mid-'80s. House were a folk rock band formed in May '76 from the ashes of Asylum and Backhurst, both Guildford bands. Local label Thumb issued a various artist compilation titled 'Who Invited Them?' Formed in '92, this Fleet based 4-piece punk metal band gigged throughout '93 and supported the likes of Radical Dance Faction and Glen Matlock & The Mavericks. Jackie Lynton’s Happy Days Band started in ’76 when an ex-Savoy Brown and Diesel vocalist got together with former members of The Stormsville Shakers. Later known as The Jackie Lynton H.D. they appeared, in ’78, on the “Who Invited Them?” Guildford artist compilation [TR001] on the Thumb Records label with this track: “Woking”, and “The World's A Wheelbarrow”. Shoot! Dispute were a Guildford based pop-funk band formed by former Vapors bassist Steve Smith. This track, 'Monkey' was recorded on 6 June 1984 for the second of two Radio One sessions for John Peel and was first Broadcast on 14 June 1984, then repeated on 09 July 1984 and 18 September 1984. Dark Paradise recorded "Stardust" on the 16-track at Matinee Music, Reading in 1984. It appeared as the B-side of white label single “And I Love Her”, which was cut at Utopia Studios, London and featured “Stardust” on the B-side. Zenith with their two-drummers and percussionist performed a range of original material along with a selection of covers. Much of the material combined intricate guitar and bass lines along with time signature changes and notably, Zenith included many Santana tracks in their set. 'Pseudoman' was recorded at Bracknell's South Hill Park's studios and produced by Rare Bird's ex-organist / keyboardist, Graham Field. Pictures Like This were a Guildford area band formed in ’79 and were active members of the scene centered on the Wooden Bridge, Guildford. The band’s musical direction shifted toward electronic / synth pop with flecks of new wave. Support from John Peel helped this track reached the lower end of the singles chart and the band’s prospects looked good. A Nights Vendetta

Alton based quartet, Siege was another local New Wave of British Heavy Metal band, although of the late NWOBHM period. They spent a couple of days recording and mixing four songs, of which ‘Wasted Time’ was one, for Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show on BBC Radio 1, in the Beeb's Maida Vale Studios; with the show broadcast on 6 February '87.

Thane released “Traffic Jam”, the title track of their debut 7″ single in 1980. The 101 Club, Clapham later secured the track for 101 Records ‘Beyond the Groove’ compilation LP along with The Fix, Modern Man, and the Electric Eels, amongst others. Produced by Dave Moore, “Traffic Jam” [BAD 03] was on Badge Records and backed by “Frankie Boy”. It was also released in France on the Arabella label [102273] that same year. Following the slow, brooding pace of Fast Paced Life, Altered View returns with Fruit from the Trees, the second cut taken from their forthcoming album Midnight Area. Built around a steady, hypnotic pulse and teasing, almost taunting vocals, it trades introspection for motion without losing the duo’s signature tension.

On remix duties, label boss Madd Rod steers the track into tripped-out club terrain, folding in acidic textures and flashes of early trance. Meanwhile, legendary UK producer and selector Justin Robertson lends his unmistakable signature, offering a low-slung reinterpretation: part electro, part post-punk, part warped dub, with just enough swing to keep it unstable.
