So often people are asking questions of God, but they aren't the right questions to ask. This sermon by Terry Summerlin was recorded in his gospel meeting at the Blanco Hills church of Christ, 8-11 September 2024.

What Are The Right Questions?

When we encounter violence or seemingly random death, our natural human instinct is to scramble for an explanation, a pattern to identify the reason for the tragedy so that we can avoid it. Too often, religion provides this explanation by blaming the victims, theorizing that suffering must be punishment for sin. Jesus rejects this interpretation, but in the next breath he calls for repentance. To detangle this apparent contradiction, we need to focus on the perspective we are taking and where it focuses our attention.
