As the country continues to see mass arrests of migrants in courtrooms and in viral videos, the LMC spends the hour with Ernesto Castaneda from the Immigration Lab and the Center for Latino American and Latino Studies at American University to discuss migrant realities vs the myths that lead to racist, xenophobic government policies.

In this episode, Ellen and Awa discuss European identity building and memory politics, highlighting how national narratives shape collective memory. They emphasise the selective remembrance of historical events, and its impact on national identities. Together, they examine the silencing of racialised people’s histories and experiences within discourse on national identity and how this, in turn, plays a role in the rise of xenophobia and far-right ideologies.

The LMC is searching for answers with freelance writer Arturo Dominguez by discussing hateful rhetoric and legacy of the far-right activist.

September 19th, 2025: Death of a White Nationalist

How did we become disenfranchised from our voices? Why do so many of us stop singing and lose trust with our voices? 

This first episode breaks down how colonial narratives of the sex/gender binary, as well as Eurocentric vocal practices, tarnish many people’s relationship to their voice. The podcast focuses on how queer people, especially trans and gender non-conforming folks, are disproportionately excluded from the rigidity of many vocal spaces. Through interviews, soundscapes and meditations, this episode offers routes to decolonising the voice outside of whiteness, elitism and ableism in order to find more embodied states of being.
