Masterful producer Yuksek returns to RNT with the 'Déjà Vous' EP of all-original modern disco. 'She’s Mine' leads with a rolling percussive beat and Italo baseline and layers emotive piano chords and plaintiff vocals, to hearken back to a nostalgic era of indie disco. 

On the flip side, the EP's title track collab with Brazilian producer Diogo Strausz brings expected tropical flavor, and 'All Night' feels a bit French-touchy with it’s infectious phase effected vocal loop. Accessible hooks and solid production, this is a handy one for the bag!

MilesTones #032

Mostly tracks in minor keys this week with a few recognizable edits. Lots of foot traffic, so I wanted to keep them engaged with familiar, accessible sounds. A few of these tracks I've been practicing with and getting used to outside of mixing, and they happened to be in complementary keys with each other. This one was impromptu again, and it seemed to work out. Took some risks that payed off.

Our other resident, Cardboard Psychic, played something a little more ethereal than usual. It was inspired. He brings something special and unique every week; but you just gotta be there. Not just to witness and enjoy it; but because he doesn't always record is mixes. Treat yourself and hear him in person on his next round.

This isn’t your typical disco revival. This is Studio 54 flipped — a glitterball-splashed rework of dancefloor royalty, rebuilt with house heat, nu-disco flair, and edit culture energy.

We kick things off with a killer mashup that fuses “Rapper’s Delight” with CHIC’s “Good Times”, courtesy of Ivan Jack & Master Mike — a nod to the birth of hip-hop and disco’s golden groove in one seamless jam.
Then Ken@Work steps up with a slick remix of “Good Times”, reshaping a classic into a strut-ready roller.
The fire continues with Purple Disco Machine, Benjamin Ingrosso & Nile Rodgers on the outrageously funky “Honey Boy (Extended Version)”.
We roll into Kylie Minogue’s “Tension”, given a shimmering electro-glam remix by Chromeo, and a twilight anthem in Shakedown’s “At Night” (Purple Disco Machine Extended Remix).
Also packed in the crate is a bouncing remix of Kool & The Gang’s “Fresh” from HP Vince, bringing neon-tinted boogie to the dancefloor revival.

I did a 1000+ ranking mainly based on the one already done by discomusic.com website. (now closed)
- A top 700 based on 70's & 80's Disco Djs ranking of this era.
- A top 500 based on discomusic.com member's votes.

I add to these ranking 5 top 100 given by different Gen AI : Chat GPT, Mistral AI, Gemini, Claude & Deep Seek.
I supress the mistakes they have made and create a final ranking.

TFU Dirty Dozen Vol. 6 – Ash Lee (2008)

This mix was recorded back in 2008 as part of the Dirty Dozen CD series for TFU. It was one of the first curated sets where I really started to explore layering acapellas throughout the mix, something that’s stuck with me ever since. Most of it was mixed on vinyl, with CDJs used for layering vocals. One of the acapellas is even reversed… and somehow it worked.

The sound I was playing leaned into bass-heavy foundations, punchy drums, and a slightly left-field take on what was dominant around that time. I was trying to avoid the obvious records and shape something that felt like my own.

Born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands the 42 year old Kono Vidovic
has dedicated his life to music, from the young years when he started with DJ'ing at the age of 12 until now, he traveled through the world of music, inspired by some of the worlds greatest artists like Carl Cox, Todd Terry, Frankie Knuckles and so he found his way into creating his own music style.

Music is my therapy.

Ash Lee is a Melbourne-based DJ with over two decades experience, shaped by a long-standing connection to vinyl culture and an expansive music library built over time. His approach is rooted in deep musical knowledge and a keen sense of what a room needs, balancing nostalgia with the new. His sets reflect both a deep respect for the past and a forward-thinking ear, always aiming to strike the right balance between discovery and familiarity.

Ash’s sets are anchored in house and disco, shaped by everything from classics and modern reworks to a discerning palette that leans into deeper territory. Depending on the environment, his sound broadens to include elements of nu disco, funk, and downtempo, always delivered with a clear sense of musical direction.

His approach is open-format and instinctive, shaped by years of listening, learning, and refining. Each performance draws from extensive experience across club, event, and private settings. Equally comfortable working with vinyl or digital tools, his focus is always on flow, feeling, and creating a lasting connection with the audience.

In the mountains of the Magdalena, a Colombian province where the jungle plunges into the Carib-bean Sea, the climate is tropical. Sun, heat, clouds, rain, sun, heat, clouds, rain… This is the water cycle that has given rhythm to Jimena Angel’s life since she left her native Bogotá to set up home and her recording studio in lush natural surroundings. Her radiant personality and abundant creativity flourish here.

On her new album, it is the cycle of water that has inspired her to write a metaphor for the ups and downs that make up the spice of life: after the rain comes the fine weather. Singer, composer, songwriter, producer, guitarist and DJ, Jimena Angel embraces every facet of the music that permeates her. We don’t know whether her artistic path is the result of fate or a lucky star.

Growing up in a family with no musicians, she developed a passion for singing at the age of 5 and hasn’t looked back since. She had her path all mapped out for her, and it didn’t matter if her father didn’t like the fact that his daughter, only 16 years old but already a rebel, was burning up her first stages singing the blues in a bar in Bogotá’s megalopolis. The fuse was lit and the bomb, Jimena Angel, exploded in 1995 with the group Pepa Fresa, a pioneer of Colombian rock – imagine Janis Joplin with Led Zeppelin – whose short existence (three and a half years) and one album on Sony Music Colombia leC their mark in LaDn America and the United States. This success catapulted her career and gave her the opportunity to perfect her approach to performing, composing and teamwork.

Now recognised and multi-talented artist, guitarist with the reggae group Alerta Kamarada, she was also hired by English producer and musician Richard Blair to join the Sidestepper collective, a mix of cumbia, salsa and Anglo-Saxon club culture (Jimena sings on the 2004 hit, Más Papaya, and has tou-red extensively in Europe, sharing the stage with Morcheeba and Celia Cruz among others). It was also a time of collaborations with various naDonal groups (Sonorama, Regadera, Blusa, Bla bla blu), but her outspoken personality turned her towards a solo career. Finally signed to Universal Music Mexico, thanks to superstar Juanes, she released her first solo album, Día azul, in 2009, with a pop- rock feel. Recorded with a host of top names, including bassist Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel), it was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the “Best Female Vocal Album of the Year” category, up against contenders such as Natalia Lafourcade, Amaia Montero and Laura Pausini.

Jimena Angel has a festive temperament that has blossomed in her city life. She also lost herself in it. To find herself again, she reconnected with nature, and therefore with herself. This was the inspiration behind Todo Reverdece (Everything Reverts) in 2014, a second solo album that combines electronic productions with Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Bullerengue and Porro Chocoano. Jimena Angel has now moved back to her native megalopolis and sings the love as much as the risks of monoculture, on instrumentals combining traditional styles with electronic productions, in addition to the Reggae to which she is attached. A string of acclaimed singles and fruitful collaborations followed, including with Brain Damage, a pioneering French Dub group, on four tracks on the album ¡Ya No Más! (2018). In 2020, she released a stunning EP album, Aire, featuring the single Llamameya and contributions from producer iZem and beatmaker Nikitch. This time, it’s clear, Jimena Angel has found her calling.

As enthusiastic, sunny and sparkling as she was in her early days, it’s hard to imagine that Jimena Angel is approaching thirty years in the music business. We’ve never even heard her so creative. While her solo live set, in which she sings to her own compositions, is touring the world, her year 2023 was prolific. She released two irresistible singles, Pambelé orchestrated with US producer and beatmaker Captain Planet, and Vente Pa’cá with Jah Sazzah and Nickodemus, as well as featuring on A Veces on iZem’s new album (In Ze Early Morning).

Above all, she completed the recording of her new album. Sun, heat, clouds, rain, sun, heat, clouds, rain… The tropical humidity is also that of love, whose cycle – meeting, passion, running out of steam, separation – inspired a deluge of feelings in Jimena Angel. Composed while she was living with the spirits of the Caribbean forest and touring internationally again after the pandemic, her upcoming album blends intimate considerations with cosmic spirituality on Afro Caribbean rhythms like Bullerengue, a music style whose origins go back to the slave women of Colombia’s Caribbean region, Tropical Disco, Dub, Highlife… Africa is never far away in Jimena Angel’s music, which embraces its traditions as much as its contemporary expressions.

It’s clear that while Jimena Angel masters the entire creative process, she also knows how to sur- round herself with talented international producers, as on the eleven tracks on this stunning album. An explosive Electro-Afro-Caribbean cocktail, set alight by a singer with a strong temperament. Her forthcoming album is a shower over the fire lit by a pyromaniac artist!

As the son of a professional flamenco singer, Thomas has always been surrounded by music.  Exposure to flamenco influenced him because it has a dynamic range of emotions—from the "deep singing" style of cante hondo, to the more lively alegrias.  He has also worked in the corporate, independent, and online music industry for a number of years.  At one point he was a Content Manager for the Electronic Music genre at MP3.com, where he screened over 500 songs per day.  Exposure to a wide range of music explains the range of genres in his mixes—he uses whatever carries the mood.  From listening to Umm Kulthum's "Enta Omri" in his childhood, to New Wave and  Industrial as a teen, it became difficult for him to stick to one sound. Though vinyl was his original format of choice when he started in the 90s, the use of digital mixing has helped him better form soundscapes to expand your headspace.  Let him play with your moods for a spell.
