In response on the Juan Esparza thing: The MIDIs he uploaded are pulled from the source game files. I sequenced the vast majority of the new MIDI files for 2.2.

This almost sounds like a Paper mario Track when played this way.

Fang is a stupid thing to call Nack the Weasel.

Tried my best to limit the number of sounds here, as well as the number of voices. It doesn't go above 18 at any point, I'm pretty sure.
I didn't want to use PM's piano sounds for the de facto lead, because the note ranges didn't work too well for it, and on top of that it didn't mesh with a lot of the other colors. The piano is pretty rare to hear in Paper Mario to begin with anyway, so it actually makes sense to use something else.
Keeping as many of the parts as possible without using the stated patches was a challenge. Part of it was because of instruments not being suited for certain ranges again, like the left-pan guitar. In the end it uses 4 different patches. The rest was wanting to have a proper PM64 sound, like the song was begging to have applied to it on a compositional level. I wanted a sound where you could imagine gameplay of the fight easily.

MIDI uses the official 2.2 sequence. Speaking of which, the Arid Canyon sequences were exactly the same as the ones I used for my recent uploads. That Juan Esparza guy either did MIDIs for the game and thus had the right to post it, or he's a hack. I'd like to think it was the former. (Update: HACK confirmed by Cobalt herself in these here comments).

Q: Why do I use the Wario Land 4 soundfont to some capacity for so many tracks?
A: Because I love the way it sounds, obviously. Half the reason why I'll start making a MIDI in the first place is that I want to hear what it'd sound like with the Wario Land 4 soundfont.
