Hello, My name is Ekaterina and welcome to my artist’s page!  To be honest I’m quite a shy person. While I usually find it difficult to talk about myself, I hope the
following interview with one of my friends helps you to understand me better. This interview took place in a warm and cosy restaurant
in the centre of Moscow with good wine, tasty cheese, and a beautiful view of the city. 
F: What got you interested in music in the first place?  
E: I was born in a family of engineers, which you can imagine is quite far removed from music. However, one day—I look back at this day as one of my happiest—my grandmother bought me a piano. This is when I was two years old and she had seen me playing on a children’s toy keyboard.
F: You were very young then! What did you play? Were you trying to copy something you heard before?
 E: Actually, I wasn’t. And this is what
I told my parents when they asked me. I told them that I was hearing this music inside me and I had been playing it before, in the past, in another family. I think I had told them about my previous life, but now I don’t really remember. It fuzzy, like a dream.  
F: So, you have been writing music all your life? What does it give you?  
E: I had an eight year break from music. I had been around classical music since I was four, and I was even a successful piano player. However, I never had the sort
of support that a composer gets, especially not from a Russia producer. Once, after what must have been the 50th meeting with a Russia producer, I couldn’t help but cry after hearing the words, “Your songs are nice, but it simply isn’t suitable for our country.You need to write more popular music and you have to change your appearance, you need to look sexier.” At that point, I was tired of
trying and I decided to give up on writing and to never play songs
again. 
F: What changed since then?  
E: I became a mother to my wonderful daughter, Anna. She is my source of strength and energy. After her birth, I realized that there was nothing in this
world that I had to fear. That’s when I started writing again, but this time in English—something I had never done before. There was another important event, and that is when I met Nils Frahm, a composer from Berlin, in whom I felt a true friend who completely understood and accepted me. Since then I haven’t been alone anymore.
F: Tell me, what does music mean to you now?  
E: Like in the past, music is still my world and it always will be. As a child, it had been my escape from poverty, a poor education, grey dullness and strange people. For me, music is a way to feel alive. I really want to say ‘thank you’ to all those who have supported me on my journey, to my daughter and to those who have helped me to open my heart.
