“After my last album “Tiny Injuries” was released in 2023, I could feel myself slowly emerging from the dark cave of grief. Some days I would feel more positive and excited about things,  but then other days I would take ten steps back and be right back there. I desperately want to change, to feel okay, and there is also a side of me that wants to hold onto the sadness. Sometimes holding onto the sadness of loss is the only thing that keeps that person around,  and I struggle with the fear of forgetting them. All the songs on "Good Times for a Change" feel like meditations on being somewhere in between the willingness to let go, and the desire to hold on... a time capsule of the internal dialogue I have with myself everyday.”

“‘Return To The East’ is about going back to your roots, back to simplicity and in turn overcoming doubt, reclaiming personal identity and finding clarity and strength in who you are. 

It was written during a visit to my hometown of Montrose, on the East Coast of Scotland. I was on a bike ride towards Lunan Bay on a sun-drenched day when I entered a deep reflection triggered by the landscape around me. The sea, wild grasses and ploughed fields transported me back to my childhood. I was not long out of university at the time and was trying to find my feet, figure out who I was and what I wanted away from the external noise of city life in Glasgow and the influence of others.”

I credit Keith Murdiff with writing this bass line. I recorded this song with Keith around '99 (thats on the mini disc but I have no player at the mo) So although my line is off the cuff now, it's a Murdiff inspired bass ringing in my head. Keith has one of the most distinctively wonderful voices and styles ad is a superb song writer and I lucky to be able to  call him my friend too.
