Last year The Enemy found the original track file, Gigantor put a new mixdown on it, and now you have the first ever official release of "The Ladies."

Cut from the cloth of early Soft Machine and Kevin Ayers-isms, “garagearray” is a lofty, loopy flight in a candy floss-clouded sky, with an ever-present darkness just below the surface. It's wonderfully off the cuff, in moments reminiscent of a Syd Barrett session where the band must've just closed their eyes and felt it out in the dark. Coming together in all the right moments, sometimes absolute in its nick-of-timeness. Dylan Shearer is joined on this LP by Petey Dammit on bass (Thee Oh Sees) and Noel von Harmonson on drums (Comets On Fire). Produced by Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Mikal Cronin...etc) this session maintains a lighter than life vibration, like a breeze weaving through a tree far overhead. The production smacks with that lost in time quality of a BBC session piloted by a natural on the knobs genius. Although I don't know Dylan Shearer all that well, he has a sort of shy quality that seems to fall away when singing these songs live. Sometimes singing is much heavier in truth than speaking small talk, I guess. It's really quite lovely and full of sad and poetic moments and we are VERY proud here at Castleface to be co-releasing this with Empty Cellar Records, with whom we're making two special and limited handprinted jacket + colored vinyl editions, featuring artwork by Michael Sean Coleman. Out on April 15th on CD, LP and digital on April 15th.

At some point in 2013, Friendly Fires, Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay (aka The Asphodells), convened in an east London pub to discuss collaborating on new music together. The plan was to produce music that came from a place outside of their respective usual musical styles - a loose, open-ended process embarked upon for the pure joy of experimentation and collaboration rather than a specific end goal.

The collaboration came on the back of two hugely successful Friendly Fires albums – 2008’s debut Friendly Fires and 2011’s follow up Pala – and an acclaimed debut album from The Asphodells in 2013’s Ruled By Passion Destroyed By Lust, the latest in a long line of classic releases from Andrew Weatherall’s own Rotters Golf Club label.

Recording took place between Weatherall’s Shoreditch studio, The Bunker, and Friendly Fires frontman Ed Macfarlane’s basement studio just a short stroll down the road in Farringdon, using a desk that once belonged to influential German producer Konrad ‘Conny’ Plank to mix the tracks.

The result is ‘Before Your Eyes’ and ‘Velo’ - two brand new tracks that take close to ten minutes each to reveal their full hypnotic glory. The tracks will be released as a AA-sided single on 12” and download and will be the inaugural release on Friendly Fires’ own Telophase label.

Some might think the Symphonix guys would become more and more staid and quiet with age. Not a chance! Just the opposite, on their fourth studio album the brothers are as loud, unrestrained, and energetic as never before – It’s Time To Punk! This is clearly the message of all the 10 previously unreleased titles on this excessively joyful work. It was obviously made for the middle of the dance floor. This is exactly the place where the listeners are driven to by the massive pressure of the bass and catchy, melodic hook lines. The sound is wild and euphoric as it can be, but it is produced in a very considered and refined manner. Because of the limited release, “Star Children” has only been heard by the most devoted Lettuce fans. Lettuce's Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff had this to say about the release:
