A DUEL BECOMES A BATTLE is the culmination of Emily Francisco's music box projects. Since 2012, the DC based sculptor and sound artist has been creating "erasure music" by modifying and documenting music boxes collected at resale shops. By filing away key components of a song's melody from the programming cylinder, she creates new compositions that allow the accompaniment to take the melody. Taking place in Julie Wolfe's GREEN ROOM installation at 1700 L St NW, the evening will begin with an empty jar and a modified music box built into a tiny piano. A period of deconstruction and modification will build up to a battle between seven music boxes. A live close-up video feed will capture the sequence, with the feed projected onto the gallery. This event marks her first live performance with music boxes. (Recorded Live: 10 December 2015)

Pieces of Glass
An album composed in dedication to the great composer Philip Glass.

An inspiration, Glass has opened my ears and mind to realms of music I could not have conceived.
He introduced Minimalism to my life, altered my perception of the world around me, and allowed me to see the world from a new spectacle.
These pieces were inspired by the style of the great composer combined with the essence of minimalism formed in my own cognition distilled into sound.
This set of pieces have been composed in dedication to the great composer himself, Philip Glass.
All things are Complex. All things are Minimal.

Tamer Khalil, a Saudi multidisciplinary composer and pianist, blending his passion for music, art, and architecture to write inspired story driven musical compositions. Tamer is internationally trained through the Red Sea Film Festival Labs in composing for film, motion picture and video game music taught by globally renowned composers such as Simon Franglen, composer of the movie Titanic and Avatar: way of the water. He is a member of the Saudi National Orchestra and an emerging composer, with works like the film "90 Days" (Netflix) and series "Doon" (Viu). He also composes for cultural institutions “Central Jeddah Development” and leads workshops at “Al Balad”. Currently he is selected to participate at the 2025 Osaka Expo as a multidisciplinary Composer/Artist to represent the Saudi Pavilion. He is working towards getting a master’s in music composition at the Royal College of Music, London in the upcoming years.
