"Space is something I'm really developing in my music," she explains. "Often I get inspired by surroundings," she continues. "When I'm in a certain place, and there's a certain smell or atmosphere, that really inspires me. So sometimes when I make a track, it kind of resembles this moment I had in this specific place."

upsammy (@upsammy) was a resident DJ at Amsterdam's much loved De School nightclub and words like "adventurous" are often used to describe her sets. As electricity blossoms and leaves glisten, upsammy creates interpretative space, cleverly paradoxical in its concurrent comfort and desolation. Known for her keen ear for crystalline melodies and intricate rhythms, her name is Thessa Torsing; she transcends traditional genre boundaries, creating a space where the digital and organic harmonize.

My World My Way was the name of @e-saggila's album back in 2019. It perfectly encapsulates her brazen approach to sound which chews up and spits out everything from noise to breakcore to techno. The Iraq-born, Toronto-based artist has always revelled in the contrast between tempos, shocking rhythms and distorted textures. Part of the thrill of listening to it is the sense it could all collapse at any moment, whether releasing on her label Summer Isle or the likes of Opal Tapes, Hospital Productions, and Northern Electronics.

This week she delivers an hour of pure electronic potency that brings to life her uniquely dystopian visions. Staring in what sounds like a haunted underground metro station, she then transitions into futuristic worlds of pulsating bass, squealing synths, scratchy melodies and hyper-driven percussive patterns that race along into the unknown. It's an abstract selection of sound that is cerebral and cinematic but will also cause utter carnage in a club setting.

More focussed on constructing a set with an energy in mind than genre, her sets and track choices are always interesting and unexpected, paying attention to how a moment makes you feel. Just as likely to be found in a deep & dark basement playing sounds loaded with bass weight or deep techno, as on a festival stage playing footwork or house - expect the unexpected. 

“I wanted to create a mix that danced around the space in between the more techno leaning side of my sound & the deep bassy sounds you usually hear in my sets. Lots of slow, psychedelic sounds to start, building into some deeper more hypnotic techno before reaching some dark & swampy club orientated cuts to finish. All between 90-135bpm”
