The academic and theoretical discussion of film and art is still a very scarce part of the Internet. Amateur Theorist strives to strengthen that community by supplying a safe online destination for members to discuss, debate, and share their opinions of film theory.

I founded this site with the ambition of creating an online resource that I could reference for my own personal study during my time at University of Toronto. However, I foresee a greater potential in this website, to serve as a resource not only for my own personal growth, but for the that of the entire online film community. And, as a team, we can become an even stronger, more diverse organization for film scholars everywhere.

This website will be predominantly run by a small team of writers and staff that will post content in the form of text publications, and podcasts. Please visit often, as there will be regular updates to the site. There are also active forums and comment sections that I encourage everyone to participate in.

I would like to reinforce that this is not a business venture; this website is developed solely for the love of film with the intention to unite our community in an accessible and fun learning environment. This is Amateur Theorist.
