This was a really difficult track to remix, the original is such a classic so I wanted to make sure I showed respect to that whilst trying to do something different. I didn't want to have the whole album be too melancholic, but for this track it felt like the best direction to go in order to do something different. Although the original beat definitely has a hint of sadness to it, I made it more upfront here with the strings and melodies. I also kept that smooth vibe, choosing this sample for that reason, the bassline especially had a nice flow from the chops I sequenced. 

I knew I was going to sample Sade for this beat to keep the atmosphere and vibe reminiscent of the original, and tried flipping tracks from all of her albums. This was like my 4th attempt at and it was by far my favourite, definitely a chilled vibe to calmly reflect on the classic track that I'm remixing. I put it at the start of the album for that reason, wanted to gradually build into the rest of the project which had higher energy and a bigger focus on celebrating DOOM. Hope people enjoy this one as it's own track!

One of my personal favourite beats from the album, I knew I wanted to remix Gas Drawls and I had a rough idea of the kind of beat I wanted to make for it. The first flip I worked out with just the bassline reminded me of the laid back intro to Gas Drawls with the Steely Dan vocals, but I knew I wanted to switch it up in a big way to create some proper atmosphere for DOOM's verses. This sample was perfect for that, the melody of the strings was crazy to me, but it was those echoing sounds which I layered ontop that really made the beat for me, I love adding elements like that to beats and especially in this case I thought it worked perfectly with adding to that grand sort of vibe. The mix ended up really really thick here too, I wanted to make the drums fat so had to layer up the sample too, definitely ended up with a hard hitting sort of feel.

I was really happy with the change in vibe for this beat, even though it's from a Soul/Funk sample I took these synth chops to make a very chilled almost video game sounding beat. The layering levelled this one up for me, added a lot more atmosphere and weight to the soundscape especially on the low end, and also gave the track more variation. Went for that bouncy vibe on the drum groove here to match the flows of the melody, wanted this to be a track you can chill/zone out to, with some emotive elements to the sample too especially the layering.
