Sampled the animated film 'The Snowman' to make these beats (check the visual link for more). I saw the film a lot of times throughout my childhood and to be honest even now it can leave me finished. I think a large part of that (besides the ending) is the fact that there's no dialogue it's all: music is used to convey the emotion and tell the story alongside the visuals, and that definitely resonates with me on a different level to dialogue etc. I found the soundtrack to this on vinyl in a charity shop a few years back, and instantly knew I'd be inspired to make a beat out of it. I really wanted to use the main piano melody, and had to really chop it up to get it to work as a beat. The start of this video is the soundtrack with the piano playing unedited, and then once the drums come in my chops and flip play over them, so it's clear how I had to alter the melody and order of all the chops to get it to work and make sense. I remember I was too happy with the fact that I was able to make a beat out of this sample, but I couldnt find any acapellas that really fit over it at the time, so I decided to make a different beat by pitching down the piano, thinking it would fit the hip hop vibe more. I was unbelievably gassed with how the piano sounded slowed down, and flipped it in a different way for a remix of Common's verse on 'The Bizness' which I dropped the instrumental for already: https://soundcloud.com/tapeheadloops/keepin-it-right-instrumental

For this video I thought it made sense to include that second flip at the end, cause I thought the change in vibe went perfectly with the way the magic of the story ends when the kid wakes up to find the snowman melted, the difference in these two beats kind of goes hand in hand with the two sides to this story, which I didn't really intend when I was making them but it definitely made sense to me once I had them over the visuals.
