Tried to remix this track a couple times before and always ended up scrapping it. The original is such a classic and recognisable song so it's a bit of a tough one to work with. Always liked the vocals especially the 'slow down' hook, think it sounds pretty good over this beat. This isn't the same sample they used at all, but it does kind of sound like a slowed down version of that melody in a way. The 16 note hi hats were key for me with this one, for a while the beat only had 8th note hats, adding the 16 note hats gave it a lot more energy. Pitched it up mid way through too match Grand Pubas vocals better.

I almost remixed NY State Of Mind over this beat, the structure was perfect but the flow just wasn't fitting right. Ended up going for Thieves In The Night by Black Star which was so crazy, never thought I'd remix that song. I had to extend the beat quite a lot for the remix and I also made the drums louder cause the acapella was drowning them out a bit, so I thought it made sense to drop this as it's own extended version of the beat.
