Rest In Peace Trugoy The Dove.

Maybe my favourite ever De La Soul song. Impossible to pick definitively, but this one always hits, the energy is so on point. Was very happy with the way this remix turned out, think it's got some positive energy despite being obviously emotional. Lots more to come in the future, will definitely be doing a full De La Soul album this year.

Ever since I made the remix of ‘Back Down’ at the start of the year I was thinking about doing more 50 cent remixes, was mad happy with how that one turned out especially the way his semi singing style of emceeing worked with the melodies from soul samples. Since then I kept finding myself trying out his acapellas over new beats I was making, and kept on finding they fit mad well, so I started saving them and decided to focus on making a remix album. 

Very excited to release it next week, wanted to get it out in time for my brothers birthday on the 17th of April - he's a big fan of 50 cent and really put me onto a lot of the songs I decided to remix here, especially this one. I can't lie I never really thought about remixing 50 cent much before my brother started putting me onto his best tracks, and I defo owe him for that cause 50's style of rapping/singing fits so well with soul samples. 

Ghetto Qu'ran might be one of my favourite tracks by 50 so wanted to do my best with the beat for this remix. The original has a nice feel good vibe so I went for a more deep reflective sort of sound, sampling the film King Kong from 2005 which has the craziest soundtrack. I think it fits the way the track reminisces on the past pretty well. 

I'll be scheduling all the beats from the album on streaming in the next few days, and I'll try and get the YouTube premiere link for the album live at least one day before it releases. Got a lot of mixing to do this week, fully can't wait to share the beats and remixes with everyone, took my time and was a lot more selective with the tracks and I think it paid off. Really looking forward to hearing what people think of the album.

Forgive Me

Had a bit of trouble mixing this one, especially the Nas acapella. Wanted the beat to have some weight to it so I ended up layering the sample quite a lot, but then had to layer the acapella too so it didn't get lost under the beat. Hopefully the final outcome sounds OK, I definitely like the feel of the beat, got a laid back jazzy kind of feel whilst still fitting the rugged East Coast vibe. I initially couldn't chose between blending the Nas acapella or the Just Step Prelude over this beat, so I decided to have them both. Thought it actually worked in a way because Nas is describing someone having to face trial etc, and that's the whole focus of the Big Noyd verse too, so it's almost like the second verse is coming from the perspective of the guy Nas is talking bout in the first verse. Not 100% but the link is kind of there.
