Operation Doomsday is probably my favourite MF DOOM album (it’s hard to say really, Vaudeville Villain is a close second). Being a huge old school hip hop fan, when I first heard the album it blew me away with how innovative everything was, whilst being ridiculously raw and authentically 90s sounding. There’s something about DOOM in this period which is just different, he was making music for the pure love of it, was homeless at some points, and you can just hear that this album was born out of sheer passion to keep on with music to continue what he and his brother started, and what they had planned. It’s always resonated with me.

For this remix I used the Extended Raw Rhymes version of Go With The Flow from the deluxe version of the album. I first remixed this back in 2020 and wanted to update the mix for the album. DOOM just sounds so hungry here with MF GRIMM backing him up, and the style is so authentic and genuine, it oozes real deal hip hop. GRIMMs adlibs make the track even harder to me, you can really feel the sense of comradery between the two, and of course the scratches on the beat are just nuts.

Getting really excited for the album now, got a lot done in the past few weeks (this weekend especially was crazy) so I feel like I can drop this one. Really tryna keep all the new beats unreleased until the full project drops. I've released this beat before, but now in retrospect this is the perfect DOOM song to put over it, such an interesting break up song seeing as he's dissing himself, and then the levels to what the song is actually about are so deep it's crazy - I've always rated these visuals for the way they explore that theme - glad to be able to use them here without any issues. 

Hope people enjoy this remix, I've always been proud of this beat and this remix really feels like the definitive one for it, although I still like what I did before, that's more experimental I feel like with DOOM and Mos Def on the same track, whereas this just goes hand in hand, had to make it the one for Fancy Clown. Really lucky that the singing on this track matched the key of the sample too, one of my favourite things about the track I wouldn't have remixed it if that hadn't fit. Peace!

One of my personal favourite beats from the album, I knew I wanted to remix Gas Drawls and I had a rough idea of the kind of beat I wanted to make for it. The first flip I worked out with just the bassline reminded me of the laid back intro to Gas Drawls with the Steely Dan vocals, but I knew I wanted to switch it up in a big way to create some proper atmosphere for DOOM's verses. This sample was perfect for that, the melody of the strings was crazy to me, but it was those echoing sounds which I layered ontop that really made the beat for me, I love adding elements like that to beats and especially in this case I thought it worked perfectly with adding to that grand sort of vibe. The mix ended up really really thick here too, I wanted to make the drums fat so had to layer up the sample too, definitely ended up with a hard hitting sort of feel.

Ever since I made the remix of ‘Back Down’ at the start of the year I was thinking about doing more 50 cent remixes, was mad happy with how that one turned out especially the way his semi singing style of emceeing worked with the melodies from soul samples. Since then I kept finding myself trying out his acapellas over new beats I was making, and kept on finding they fit mad well, so I started saving them and decided to focus on making a remix album. 

Very excited to release it next week, wanted to get it out in time for my brothers birthday on the 17th of April - he's a big fan of 50 cent and really put me onto a lot of the songs I decided to remix here, especially this one. I can't lie I never really thought about remixing 50 cent much before my brother started putting me onto his best tracks, and I defo owe him for that cause 50's style of rapping/singing fits so well with soul samples. 

Ghetto Qu'ran might be one of my favourite tracks by 50 so wanted to do my best with the beat for this remix. The original has a nice feel good vibe so I went for a more deep reflective sort of sound, sampling the film King Kong from 2005 which has the craziest soundtrack. I think it fits the way the track reminisces on the past pretty well. 

I'll be scheduling all the beats from the album on streaming in the next few days, and I'll try and get the YouTube premiere link for the album live at least one day before it releases. Got a lot of mixing to do this week, fully can't wait to share the beats and remixes with everyone, took my time and was a lot more selective with the tracks and I think it paid off. Really looking forward to hearing what people think of the album.
