I’ve wanted to remix this acapella for so so long, had it for a while and I’ve tried it over countless beats I’ve made but each time ended up scrapping it cause I felt like it sounded forced. Being by Natural Elements/Raidermen, the verses are straight up hardcore Hip Hop, and they definitely command a certain type of beat to fit the raw energy they bring. They're one of my favourite underground groups from the 90s I think it's such a shame they never released an album cause they were on fire throughout the decade, they always had the craziest demos on Stretch and Bobbito and released some nuts singles as solo artists and with different groups like this one. When I first started making this beat I wasn’t 100% sure with where it was going, the original sample had a completely different vibe which I thought would lead to a more light hearted melody. When I chopped it all up though I heard so much potential for a more rugged beat, especially with the harp that also had some bass to it. Honestly it just put me in the zone and I ended up doing a lot of layering to give the beat even more flavour, my favourite thing is definitely the flute/wind elements which I added right at the end, I’d forgotten I’d even recorded that part of the sample cause I’d been chopping and flipping the harp for so long, so I quickly chopped that up to see if it would blend with what I’d made and instantly lost my mind. It was adding those chops which made me really think this acapella could work, it had a similar ethereal sound to it which reminded me of the vocal sample from the original, but was still different enough for sure to add something new to the track. 

I chopped up so much stuff to layer for the main melody of this beat that I was actually able to make some switch ups which used much less chops and layering, which was a good way to give the track variation and let it breathe a bit, before going back to the melody with the crazy energy that I rated the most. I think I made it clear how I felt about the melody with the kick pattern that I put over it, I wanted it to thump properly and really emphasise the boom bap vibe, taking those kicks away when the lighter melody comes back in. I just wanted this beat to hit basically, and I think I achieved that, when I went to record it from the MPC to mix all the stems I ended up writing to it for over an hour, which I’m pretty gassed about and will for sure be working on that to drop soon. I’m way too happy with how this remix turned out though, feel like the acapella definitely fit and killed the beat in a different way.

These visuals are actually from the Canadian Hip Hop group ‘Rascalz’, Natural Elements never put out any visuals in the 90s but I knew I’d need some visuals that really focused on Hip Hop culture, and Rascalz always fit that vibe perfectly. I cut up quite a lot of parts from 2 of their videos, thought they had a dope vibe which fit this well.

I remember making this beat and it got really late cause I got mad immersed in what I was doing, and I spent ages getting the first flip down and how I wanted it. Then at like 2am I decided to try and flip another part of the sample cause I felt like I hadn’t done everything I could with the first, and when I came up with the 2nd flip I lost my mind on a different level, but had to keep it low key cause everyone else in the house was sleeping. I just mixed it there and then, went to sleep and first thing the next day revisited what I had to see what acapellas would work over it.

At the start of 2021 I began working on a beat tape and was seeing which of my beats mixed well together, and one of my favourites was the one I used here, which I bring in at 2:44. It’s rare that beats from different samples will mix together that well, the melodies must be in the same key etc, but I knew I had to incorporate that blend into this.
