This was one of those beats that was just mad fun to make. It's always dope when you get a piano sample which is so crazy that you just stay motivated to get it chopped up asap, to flip whatever it was that made it stand out to you. With this beat the sample was so nice I ended up making a couple of loops, pitching my chops up and down to experiment with different sounds. The chops at the normal pitch were shorter, which made for a more upbeat, choppy kind of vibe. To contrast against that, I then pitched the sample down loads for the second flip, which came out more smooth and fluid cause of the chops being much longer, which worked well for the second part of the track. It obviously makes a huge difference having more than one flip in terms of variation and song progression, and it's something I always try and do now when flipping a sample.

I made this beat in late October 2019. I'd picked up a generic record compilation of music from films at a charity shop for 50p on the off chance that there would be something dope on there. The sounds on this beat are all I managed to find on the whole record, on one rhapsody track from 1945 that it had. Most of the rhapsody had nothing that stood out to me and was really hectic musically with no sampling potential, and it was a bit frustrating, because I'd spent a few hours listening to records for samples. Then for a brief moment there was a pause in the rhapsody, and these really dark and menacing bass notes played, and they instantly stood out to me so I sampled them into the MPC2000. I guess being frustrated with not finding a sample brought out an aggressive nature in this beat, it made me think of the soundtrack to Jaws or something in how sinister and angry the beat sounded. It was late October too so maybe it being near Halloween inspired the evil sound of the beat too. I was happy with the loop of the bass heavy string notes, and I layered the best piano notes from the rhapsody ontop, which added a lot to the beat and made it a lot more engaging.

Overall this is one of those beats that was born out of frustration, but once I actually had the samples on the MPC it was very simple to make, and it didn't take long to get to the finished product, which I was very happy with as it's always fun to make a really grimey hardcore sounding beat.

It's always nice when you get 2 flips from a sample which gel together. Here I filtered both flips to act as a bassline for the beat in different parts of the track, giving the sample more weight and flavour by combining the best bits of each, it's something I've been trying to do in most beats I make now and I definitely focused on it here, trying to give the track more variation and progression as well as building the vibe of what made the sample stand out to me.

When I made this beat I knew I'd need a laid back acapella to go over it. I tried a few Masta Ace verses from the acapella LP but I wasn't really sure. I tried this acapella from T-Max and was gassed with how his flow sounded, it fit well with the drums and sounded very very different to the last remix I did with the acapella, and it fit the laid back vibe of the beat perfectly. I was considering making the drums laid back but I decided to make them hit hard, partly cause the sample didn't have much low end so I needed the drums to fill out the mix.
