So much truth in this and it made me laugh, too! Having spent four years of my life in Escondido, I guess it hasn't changed much. I still remember people cruising downtown and the cross burning outside the home the first black person in town moved into. KKK alive and well. I think they were called the John Birch Society then. My dad once wrote a song about Escondido, too. Less raw than Ed's, the refrain went "You say it's your valley, it's your nice hidden valley, but it's my valley, says the Lord!" Some of the observations were the same, though.

Ed Lucas has been into recording for 25 years and has been known by the moniker The Artist Presently Known As Ed since 1996. A native of Clairemont and at home in North Park as well, he moved to the utterly foreign town of Escondido in 2012 where every dog was a guard dog no matter its size, and the natives were on bended knee at the altar of the automobile (even creating the intentional weekly traffic jam called Cruisin' Grand) and in the thrall of the Tea Party. After a years-long creative doldrums period, Escondido rather surprisingly became the place of artistic rebirth and a return to recording new material, doing takes in between the ambient industrial noise across the street, and neighbors gunning their karaoke systems for all they were worth at back yard parties lasting till the wee hours. And when it was time to take a break the ice cream truck was sure to come around on those hot days. Even in December. Conversely, the ice cream truck plays Christmas songs in July. They say, "write what you know." To wit, Pinche Escondido is a completely true story.
