The storyteller walks us through her first, uplifting experiences of Sunset Park — the open, multicultural possibilities, from Chinese tai chi to Ecuadorian volleyball to Mexican soccer — it is the story of finding a sense of belonging after coming to the USA on her own in the midst of the early pandemic.

HERE AND NOW: Sunset Park Community Storytelling Project
Target Margin Theater in partnership with the Academy of Medical & Public Health Services

Every neighborhood is shaped by those who call it home.

From June through August 2022, more than sixty community members came together in small groups with artist facilitators and wellness counselors to listen to and share stories about their personal histories, ways of coping through the pandemic, and connections to Sunset Park.

This exhibit highlights 19 community members who chose to develop their narratives further and record their stories as an artistic and therapeutic extension of their experiences. Stories were recorded in the participant’s preferred language.
