Ayooo! Here is part 2.

Recording a "covers special" has been on my to-do list for a few years now. Quite happy to finally get around to it after debating some very tough choices with myself. I think all serious music lovers have a love and hate relationship with cover versions. It just either really works or can be the absolute most cringe-worthy musical moments.

So here we go! This is a two-part special featuring my favorite versions. One day I will probably need to revisit the concept since I left out many versions I adore.

Vibrant Matter_Through Sensuous Landscapes_Experiment with reverbs and space acoustics

A 30-minute sounding the body landscape performance at cercle cité (LU) on the 30th of September 2023 : sonic landscapes created from our sensing, sounding and shifting bodily landscapes, through different temporalities, layering and transformation.

As part of my current research into sound, place and the body, through my interests in deep listening and in relation to deep time.

Hello Earthlings, who are literally made of Earth—of water that has cycled for eons through clouds, rivers and oceans, and of minerals in the soil, derived from rock that was itself forged from the planet’s interior. The word “human” shares an ancient Indo-European root with humus or soil, a profound acknowledgment of our essential nature. If we were formed from the stony ground, stone also made us human. It was the medium of our first and longest technological age. In fact, we are still very much in the stone age, utterly dependent on rocks as a source of groundwater, building materials, fossil fuels, metals, elements for high-tech devices—and every other commodity that can’t be cultivated, raised, or hunted. To geoscientists, rocks are not nouns but verbs—far more than inert, they are evidence of Earth’s ebullient creativity, its capacity for ceaseless reincarnation of primordial matter into new forms. Rocks are transcripts of eons of conversation between the solid earth and water, air and life. They are both fascinating archives of the past and our best windows into the future, providing a lens through which we can witness time in a way that transcends the limits of our human experiences. […] This timefulness includes a feeling for distances and proximities in the geography of deep time. However, deep time is not the time of the past, but the time of what is under our feet, even that which traverses all living and non-living things. Deep time is the time of matter.

180 million years ago, it all began in a shallow sea on the edge of a large island, in a delta exposed to tides and a tropical climate. Minette rocks are made up of billions of tiny iron ooids that formed there, before being carried out to sea by a vast river system that we like to call the iron surge - a wave that persisted for several hundred thousands of years. The iron ooid, its core and the layers that envelop it, are the key to understanding the past of the red rocks and its current geography. Looking at a grain of sand we can see the whole world of the Minett. The tiny fragments of Earth's history, in which we humans live and thrive, have resurfaced in recent decades, and call for a new vision.
