Fresh off the success of his single  “Self Love” on Bump N’ Grind Records, Shaw Quentin releases his first EP “Quasimodo” on Taul Boy Records, alongside a breakbeat remix from labelmate Ren.

The title track “Quasimodo” came together in an inspired 3 am session when Shaw was still living in Brooklyn. Galvanized by the no sleep nature of the Brooklyn scene, “Quasimodo” is the epitome of a sunrise track to play on the ride home on the graffiti laden streets of Flushing Ave.
The embodiment of a witching hour track, Quasimodo’s upbeat nature and atmospheric pads is sure to put dancefloor goers into a trance.

Growing up, Shaw Quentin was always inspired by Moby and “Mango Dreams” is his ode to the electronic music legend. Shaw always loved messing with breaks and finding unique ways to contrast elements. The juxtaposition of the quick percussion and rhythm with the soft, angelic chords creates a unique atmosphere and just feels right. Emotionally, Mango is the sunset to Quasi’s sunrise. 

The EP closes off with a stellar remix of “Quasimodo” by TBR resident Ren. His signature dark synth and breaks heavy style adds a twist to the upbeat title track, building up a tension in this dancefloor belter.

Shaw Quentin’s previous projects include a Billboard charting remix of Gattison’s Picture Perfect, as well as releases on Chichi Music’s 2022 ADE Compilation project, and Hoten’s 43 Degrees Records. He has also previously supported DJs such as: Pete Tong, Hot Since 82, Artbat, Coyu, Darius Syrossian, and HOSH.

An EP inspired by a contradiction of the delicate psychadelic house records of Germany and South Africa’s forceful afro techno scene, Color of Air is a grounding force in a sea of turbulence. The goal is to help the listener find peace and gratefulness during chaos, noticing beauty in the unexpected, painting a vibrancy into life, and finding color in the colorless.


The title track Color of Air encapsules an almost hallucinogenic state of bliss through the carefree breeze of chords, and layering of the euphoric vocal chops reminding the listener that the biggest obstacles can be overcame through community. The ephemeral background pluck creates an awareness that peace is only temporary, and that the bubbling tension from the pads can overrun life’s tranquility flow at any time.

Shallow Breaths solemn darkness and tension in the track’s energy are emphasized by the breath vocal sample and the sub line. The emotional undertone of the bass creates the feeling of challenge and uncertainty of when it ends, yet, the banging low toms emulating a heartbeat and a will to push through the adversity. Although the infectious drums creates a lively rhythm, the loud buzzing metallic percussion is distracting enough that it overrides the joyful elements, drawing parallels to how self talk can distract one from life’s joys.

Finally, For the Self’s piano chords dictate the melancholic vibe of the track, showing how one can find contentment in the uncertainty surrounding his life, in that the songs feels tied together even though there are an avalanche of opposing and unpredictable emotions and voices in the sounds and vocals used, such as eeriness, happiness, and unsettlement.

A native of Johannesburg, Gavin moved to San Francisco to start the eponymous record label, Hardkiss Music, in 1991. Hardkiss Music helped foster a new dance sound with releases of Gavin’s own creation as well as releases from Rabbit-in-the-Moon, God Within, Little Wing, T Tauri and Symbiosis.

A pioneer of the early US rave scene, he continued releasing singles and remixes on international labels such as Sony Music, Six Degrees, London/FFRR, Astralwerks, Global Underground and Hooj Choons. He also went on to sign for Do Not Sit On The Furniture Records and Colour & Pitch in his latter years.
Gavin also shared A&R duties for the Sunburn label which harnessed a second wave of talented San Francisco inspired artists such as Rebel Crew, Charlotte the Baroness, Drunken Monkey, Lovesky and The Infinite Posse

As a DJ, Gavin has travelled the world presenting a hybrid sound of house, tribal techno funk and electronic precipitation and playing at some of the world’s most iconic venues, including Ministry of Sound and the End in London, Nikita in San Francisco, the Limelight and Tunnel in New York as well as All Day I Dream Festival earlier last year.

As a producer, Gavin started to focus on producing albums that strayed from the well beaten paths of genre-centric dance music. Over the past decade, he has remixed the likes of Youssou N’Dour, Led Zepellin, Elton John and Michael Franti, and performed alongside Snoop Dogg and The Buena Vista Social Club. In 2010, the song “Mundo Via Afrika” was featured on the official Sony World Cup album “Hello Africa,” alongside the best of contemporary African musicians.

Since then, the success of his classic album “Delusions of Grandeur”, which went to No. 1 on the Rolling Stone Alternative Album chart, has cemented Gavin as a true 90s rave icon.


Jad Sabbah remix:
Jad Sabbah’s remix is summarized by a fusion of two types of energies. On the one hand, the original track’s percussions and vocals gave it a very tribal and ethnic energy that immediately spoke to Jad’s multicultural upbringing in Dubai. Bringing his own signature energy into this remix, Jad verges on techno synths and large space pitch bends to give off a darker feel, while still maintaining the main tribal percussive and vocal energy, allowing the birth of a somewhat unique blend.

Everything Nothing remix:
Everything Nothing was initially inspired by the percussion-first composition of AfroDruul and wanted to maintain the integrity of the original vision while bringing in his own style of Afro House. Leaning into a higher energy and darker melodic direction, he built his remix to be a dance floor track with just as much moving emotion as the original. Listeners may notice a familiar melody in the driving bassline, new dissonant textures, and the iconic percussion that gives AfroDruul its signature sound.

Mr. Moon is Double Dipp’s first EP on Taul Boy Records, and his first deviation from his signature romonimal character. Having long admired the likes of Delano Smith, Johnny D, and Guti, Double Dipp intended to go into the studio session with a more upbeat house groove while keeping true to his signature minimal roots. 

Mr. Moon is Double Dipp’s interpretation of every clubgoers nighttime persona, pursuing a freedom and euphoria only available to us through music. It is often at night where the absence of light clouds our insecurities, where reflection makes room for expression, where the shackles around our identities unravel, and where our inner Mr. Moon comes to light.

Endgame is the track for the late night crowd, for the ones that stay till the end of the set looking for a deeper meaning, no matter how rough or real it is. The track starts off with a slow progressive energy, giving the track a push and pull movement  with the evolving drum rhythms that make the track feel as if it’ll never fully coalesce, but rather just keep growing. 

Time Loop’s simple melodic loops and percussion drive keep you in a state of hypnotic flow, leaving clubbers in a dancing daze. A track that’s contradictory by nature, the song’s calming lunar ambiences supply a melody that contrasts the ever-building coarse acid line tension. 

Finally, the eponymous track, Mr. Moon, is Double Dipp’s third collaboration with the talented Aidan Phillips, or Eyo, a longtime collaborator. Mr. Moon’s Infectious drum groove and enchanting chords evoke the sleepless nights each of us spend in a lull, contemplating the mysteries of tomorrow, hoping to be able to relive the pure bliss felt on the dance floor.

A first single from Taul Boy Records’ upcoming Act II Compilation EP, Tommy J delivers a summer hit to kickstart the series. Drawing from Jimi Jules, Skatman, Rampa, and Samer Soltan, Tommy J aims to emphasize that ideas from different genres can be used simultaneously and achieve a unique production

Inspired by deep house, soulful melodies, and percussive grooves, Funky Feet seeks to create moments of unity and celebration on the dancefloor.  By combining a live acoustic bassline with synth elements and samples, the track thrives on using the variety of options producers have, while the reverbating plucking tension jolts the listener onto the dancefloor. As the summer nears, joyful emotions led the track towards an uplifting chorus which carries the listener throughout the song.

The second single from our upcoming Act II compilation EP, Pe Rompe is a summertime heater, perfect for daytime spins. Inspired by the breadth of California’s daytime events, Everything Nothing looks to pull the night-time clubgoer away from the solace provided by the dark safe heavens that is our club scene.

The energetic rolling bass has a similar grit and bite to Enoo Napa’s iconic “Two Zulu Men in Ibiza”, while the punching stabs and mysterious organ chords provide a dark and familiar environment to night-time partygoers. This dark tension is countered by cheeky Latin vocals and vibrant booming percussions, to uplift the listener and provide a joyous relief.

Pe Rompe

Laughter is the Best Remedy, a minimal house track leaning into progressive trance, is the third single from Taul Boy Records’ upcoming Act II compilation EP. It explores more driving basslines balanced by a long breakdown and loud synth work right from the jump. Laughter has often been a way for Double Dipp to deal with life’s various stress triggers, and invites the listener to do the same. The ethereal breakdown slows the listener down to dive deeper into their own emotions, followed by a joyous expression of energy through the bassline.

“Shrouded Son” is the third installment of Taul Boy Records’ Act II VA compilation and Jad Sabbah’s first drum n bass track. 

Shrouded Sun blends softness with fierceness, using fast-paced, hard-hitting low-end paired with softer melodies and deep vocals. This creates a striking contrast—both a separation and a symbiotic feeling for the listener and between the sonic elements. As this was Jad’s debut track in this genre, he drew inspiration from what he enjoys listening to while running - drum n bass. 
“It felt good getting out of my comfort zone and enter a new territory, a genre I’ve never explorer in my productions.”, Jad shares.
