Mr. Moon is Double Dipp’s first EP on Taul Boy Records, and his first deviation from his signature romonimal character. Having long admired the likes of Delano Smith, Johnny D, and Guti, Double Dipp intended to go into the studio session with a more upbeat house groove while keeping true to his signature minimal roots. 

Mr. Moon is Double Dipp’s interpretation of every clubgoers nighttime persona, pursuing a freedom and euphoria only available to us through music. It is often at night where the absence of light clouds our insecurities, where reflection makes room for expression, where the shackles around our identities unravel, and where our inner Mr. Moon comes to light.

Endgame is the track for the late night crowd, for the ones that stay till the end of the set looking for a deeper meaning, no matter how rough or real it is. The track starts off with a slow progressive energy, giving the track a push and pull movement  with the evolving drum rhythms that make the track feel as if it’ll never fully coalesce, but rather just keep growing. 

Time Loop’s simple melodic loops and percussion drive keep you in a state of hypnotic flow, leaving clubbers in a dancing daze. A track that’s contradictory by nature, the song’s calming lunar ambiences supply a melody that contrasts the ever-building coarse acid line tension. 

Finally, the eponymous track, Mr. Moon, is Double Dipp’s third collaboration with the talented Aidan Phillips, or Eyo, a longtime collaborator. Mr. Moon’s Infectious drum groove and enchanting chords evoke the sleepless nights each of us spend in a lull, contemplating the mysteries of tomorrow, hoping to be able to relive the pure bliss felt on the dance floor.

Dutch producers Koen and Gijs, aka Callecat, return with the fourth release from April’s hotly anticipated Symbiosis album. 

The Symbiosis project Parts 1-3 has already brought superb collaborations with Paul Hazedonk (Manual Music head honcho) & Meeting Molly, Juliane Wolf & Forty Cats, and Hobin Rude & Not Demure.  Symbiosis (Part 4), available 1st March on Manual Music, consists of two incredible collaborations the first with Fabri Lopez and the second with Nick Varon.

Callecat themselves are very much a symbiotic relationship. Koen is more the DJ and Gijs the producer in this union, though both very capable in each field. Their shared sense of humour adds a playful twist to their productions. Their fun loving and light-hearted approach in their Utrecht studio helps bring you some of the best progressive electronic music around. 

Beyond Perceptions, the second track on Symbiosis (Part 4) was produced with Barcelona based Athenian supremo (and frequent Hernan Cattaneo collaborator) Nick Varon. Chocalho percussion and a sweet bass kick provide the rhythm for this lush, groovy track. Heavenly synths float above a down-on-the-dancefloor bass melody.

Koen explains: “I’ve known Nick for years now. We met prepping a Sudbeat night. His sets are deep, groovy, and melodic and so cohesive. We created the bassline, Nick came up with this incredible metallic electronic melody. We were immediately hooked. We took a lot of time and about 40 mix versions to bring you Beyond Perceptions as you hear it now.”

Bonn return to Polycarp Records this December with more of their unique twist on electronica, house and techno with the ‘XIIX’ EP.

Hamburg, Germany’s duo Simon Ferdinand and Basch better known under their Bonn guise have individually and together been delivering soul-infused electronic music over the past decade, predominantly via their own Polycarp Records. Here the pair return once again with a new three-track, once again showcasing the depth and dynamism of their production prowess.

Leading the EP is ‘Son Air’, a tripped out journey traversing through glitchy broken percussion, spoken word vocals, dreamy synth chimes and elongated subs before the latter half of the compositions works in a heavy breakbeat drum workout and rave stab sequence.

‘Phase 2 Face’ then showcases the duo’s deeper side, fusing bumpy toms, sturdy kicks and shuffled hats with ethereal textures, boomy low end tones and airy synth chimes. The aptly titled ‘Tension’ then rounds out the release, a subtly blooming, cinematic groove fuelled by an intricate rhythm section, weighty subs, choppy chords and vacillating atmospherics throughout.
