The Barry Shapiro Band (formerly Barry Shapiro & The Fazz Band) plays dynamic music inspired from travels around the world which keep audiences engaged from the opening to the last call. To the Barry Shapiro Band music is . . . “An important way to create positive changes in the world through a sound that transcends language, culture, and philosophy and which brings people of all kinds together.”

The Barry Shapiro band is made up of Barry Shapiro, Steve Gaskin, Jim Thorburn and Jim Penta.

BARRY SHAPIRO (vocals/guitar), the primary songwriter of the group, creates infectious songs captured on two acclaimed CDs, “In Remission” and “Beacon Street”, with a new one, called “Union Square”, on the way.  Barry is best known for the quality of his rich, warm voice.  His sound conveys curiosity, energy and joy which are elevated by a rhythmic guitar and soulful harmonica.  As a  traveling musician, Barry has been featured on stage at The Bitter End in New York City, The Elbo Room in Chicago and The Highliner in Seattle. Closer to home, Barry has opened at the Boulder Theater, headlined at The Walnut Room with his Beacon Street Band in Denver, and has  been featured on CATV’s Friday Night Live.

JIM PENTA (Bass guitar/vocals)  lays down the smooth driving bass groove for the band.  His musical inspiration began with the surge of “rock n roll” groups in the 60′s and continues to expand into all styles of music.  He has played with the Good Times Band, JP & Company, Beginnings, the Pierce Street Band, Sling and a Stone and the Wille Hammond Band.   Major venues include Red Rocks Ampitheatre,  the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Princess Cruiselines, and the Del Mar County Fair in San Diego.  Additionally, Jim has brought a more contemporary sound to spiritual music, or as he likes to call it, “Jammin for the Lamb”.  He produced a CD called, “Journey”  and has performed with numerous Christian recording artists.

STEVE GASKIN (percussion) has performed professionally in the Denver area and surrounding states since 1974. Steve has played at the Rainbow Music Hall, Boulder Theater, Paramount Theater, Bluebird Theater, Gothic Theater, nightclubs, in the Fairmount Hotel house band and in numerous other venues. His recording experience can be found on a dozen projects and several radio jingles, as well as on several television appearances and local showcase specials. Steve has played with Lannie Garret, Hazel Miller, Ron Henry, Billy Tolles, Parameters, James VanBuren, Mose Allison, AOA and Laura Newman, Maria Muldour, and many, many more. He’s played all styles of music including rock, jazz, country, big-band, dance, theater, shows and creative improv.

JIM THORBURN (Keyboard) was actively involved in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles as a pianist before moving to Denver.   He performed and/or recorded with Connie Stevens, Dash Crofts, Danny Deardorff, Maureen McGovern, Louie Shelton Danny O’Keefe, A&M Records, Latin Division’s platinum selling acts Antonio de Jesus and Sergio Fachelli. Jim also performed or recorded with David Benoit, Grant Geisman, Jamie Glaser, Lorraine Feather, Frank Carroll, Mark Guerrero, and Los Hermanos.

Luca Musto is an enthusiast of soul, jazz and blues, his electronic music/’slow- house’ oozes of grooving beats and hypnotizing melodies. Based in the dungeons of Berlin, he coalesces the city’s unique musical footprint with his own nuances and projects them into his music as a symphony of impressions. His catalogue merges the resilience of modernity with authenticity and the musical preferences of our generation with subtlety, so that it never feels to be listening to just another record. 

Instead, it invokes in fans of electronic music a feeling of familiarity and expertise, which is reflected in his creative sampling and merging influences. With each new release, the listener can’t help but notice that Luca doesn’t take his talent for granted, but as basis for higher aspirations.
