Happy June everyone! To kick off the 2024 mix series we wanted to present to you all a very special mixtape from Tikal. 

Our longtime followers will be pleased to know that this mix digs heavily into the root sounds of Conscious Wave as a platform.

Tikal is a DJ based in France. She is also the founder of the Tribal Garden Collective, known for creating a 'chill out' spot with alternative music in the style of nomadic and ethnic camps. 

Tikal, aka Victoire has been influenced by a wide range of music from a very young age. From 90’s music, fusion & metal to electronic music, it was experiencing dnb shows in Paris that influenced her to explore even further and get into dubstep. These days Victoire focuses mostly on sets for chill out stages at music festivals rather than clubs. This has pushed her to explore styles beyond deep, dark, dubstep, sometimes even touching on ambient.

With her artist name being linked to her country of origin Guatemala, it is hard not to notice a tribal imprint and more obscure sounds in her music. For her, each set is “told like a story” in which the listener is immersed in a sonic experience with the artist. This can be an “introspective, powerful and bewitching story” that allows listeners to reconnect more with ourselves and with others.

The Tribal Garden considers itself a dreamlike and immersive environment and includes a geodesic dome, artisanal decor and colourful lightning. Their principal objective is to offer a calm and meditative space that differs from a dancefloor vibe.

In this 33 minute mix for Conscious Wave, Tikal constructs a well thought out tracklist, touching on the darker, minimal side of dubstep best enjoyed on a soundsystem in the forest or on a good pair of headphones.

It was an absolute honor to participate and contribute to this amazing event.  Having departed from making psy trance several years ago, it was a real blessing to have my path lead me right back to where I had always aimed to be.  In a way it was the first time I had played my music in the environment I intended it for.
