This time we are very happy to present a special with David Fenech and a personal mix of his own work and other curiosities, carefully selected and guaranteed to be worth discovering.

David Fenech (born in 1969) is a French musician living in Paris. He plays a large variety of instrument and is a skilled guitar player with his own technique. His main instrument is the microphone and his music features whatever he puts under it. His baroque style has been described as ‘a kind of punk musique concrète’...
He has played and recorded with musicians such as Jac Berrocal, Felix Kubin, Jad Fair, Tom Cora, Rhys Chatham, Bérangère Maximin, James Plotkin, Shugo Tokumaru, Ergo Phizmiz, Nurse With Wound, Pierre Bastien and many others. His third solo album has been released this year in January.

It’s called “Mountains Of Night”. David considers this album to be his most personal to date, and the first in his discography that clearly echoes his personal life. The title was inspired by David's son who said to him one day, as evening fell over the Alps near Grenoble... "Look! The mountains are full of night!" Like the frightening side of something beautiful, like a perfect blend of innocence and darkness.

His recordings have been published on Jelodanti Records, inPolysons, Sub Rosa, Blackest Ever Black, Wergo, Gagarin Records.

The Swan And The Lake - Sukacita (ft. Grassskirt) - s0878

The first in a monthly(ish) series from the Shatkavalka label featuring field recordings and rare folklore. Expect reel-to-reel tapes, wax cylinders, cassettes, vinyl records, and other sonic treasures captured during ethnographic expeditions and researches — from the early 1900s to today.

In this first episode, you’ll hear archival recordings from expeditions in the Belarusian Palessie region (in the south of the country), traditional Romanian wedding songs from Transylvania, folk songs from the Soviet Far East, and Turkish folklore. The idea was to create a kind of sonic collage of traditional music — connecting these sounds through emotion and atmosphere, rather than historical or cultural context.

Weird and wonderful is the name of the game - a musical journey out from the Tea-Snuggery - way off mainstream: impulsive, spontaneous, demanding - hopefully never boring!

:(:/:) aka ThreeEmoji, is Tom Bossert. Born in 1976, his musical journey quickly led him to electronics. From Kraut Rock and bands like Cluster, Can and Kraftwerk in his youth, to the early 90’s with the start of the techno movement and club culture in Germany. His sets have always pulled on this progression, never purely one thing or the other.
One of his major influences is DJ Marcelle from Amsterdam, and her way of breaking conventions. Music is a world phenomenon and so its output should reflect this. Just like a nervous Zen master on tenterhooks, waiting for the very last sound, impulsive but deeply circumspect, it should bring together everything in a Jackson Pollock-like manner. For Tom, spontaneity and improvisation are always more important than perfection.
