Hotly off the back of his latest collaborative release with Ron Basejam, Black Hawks of Panama returns with ‘Mercer Street’, a disco delivery dripping in heat.

Black Hawks of Panama is an artist that expresses the experiences of a musical journeyman, who has absorbed a wide array of influences over a lifetime in music. The name ‘Black Hawks of Panama’ was born during time spent in Panama City and the surrounding rainforests.

The Black Hawks sound is the amalgamation of a kaleidoscopic musical journey as a resident DJ in Ibiza. Laying down a house sound that is rich in heritage, taking influences from Northern Soul roots, as well as Disco, Deep House, Italo Disco, and Chicago / New York House.

And following last years disco rework of a Chaka Khan classic with Ron Basejam on remix duties, BHOP is back with a front facing dancefloor power-tool, that spreads its valiant wings with grace. The driving undertones are propelled by Bisi’s soaring vocal rhythm that connects the dots between a euphoric chord structure and twinkling high frequency blanket. A sound quite in and of itself, representative of Black Hawks of Panama’s connection to the nightclub circuit worldwide and the soundtracks that give them their elevation.

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin puts the soup and tweed to one side and goes full Orbital with 'Execute'

Having recently put out music from Bawrut and Ivan Smagghe, Ransom Note Records are back with a new EP from Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin. Home to three dancefloor stormers + one insane remix from Marlon Hoffstadt, the Serenade EP is chock full of breakbeats and gurgling acid lines and twiddly little synth bits.

What do we know about Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin then? Well, we know he’s released on labels including Tusk Wax and Rotters Golf Club, both as Heretic and as one half of Eskimo Twins. We know he was once crowned the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. And we also know two of his great passions in life are soup and tweed. Even in the summer heat.

The latest track from the EP to see the light of day is ‘Execute’, a demolition tool that harks back to the halcyon days of peak Orbital. It’s already been rinsed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, who closed Panorama Bar with it last month and reportedly tore the roof off.

“I was playing around in the studio with a Fender Rhodes one day”, Timothy explains of the track’s genesis, “putting it through various amps and filters, then resampling it - that's how I came up with the main rave stab riff. As that part is played by hand and quite human, I wanted the rest of the instrumentation to be very mechanical and programmed, which is where the title comes from.”

Forest Drive West (@forest-drive-west) coming off the back of a fantastic album on Livity Sound that showcased his hi fidelity take on bass, jungle and techno. Here he flips 'The Fifth Planet' into eight broody minutes of involving drum programming and groaning synth drones. A subtly uplifting tune thanks to the gorgeous pads in the background, but real bass heavy system music when it comes to the dance floors.

Italian trailblazers Simone and Gabriele Giletta not only host events that have become known throughout the country but have established their Club Vision-label since September 2016. After five EPs Club Vision kicks off their 2021 with catalogue number six, which is the first various artist EP in the label's history: four artists/ acts, four tracks, all united under the roof of The Songs of the Distant Earth, a musical potpourri reaching from breaks to acid and back. The A1 comes from Gran Canarian brothers Primary Perception, who contribute their take Neo Tokyo to the EP. The track seizes Mahy and Nichel's - Primary Perception's real names – their musical roots that include influences from Hip Hop, Techno from Detroit and UK in nineties. Hence the duo delivers a break-ish and acid-like track that sounds so timeless that it could be the future of dance music as well as something you would have danced to electronic music's history. Intriguing chords over a 129bpm fast bass line combined with pads and bleeps turn Neo Tokyo to an imitable piece of music.

The Songs of the Distant Earth EP will be released on Club Vision Records.
