Mike Deem is a DJ, producer and label boss of Aarden Records.
By DJs such as James Ruskin, Surgeon, Luke Slater, Female and Regis, to name but a few, Mike Deem discovered that there is much more to Techno than meets the eye.
Inspired by this UK and Industrial approach to electronic music, he bought some turntables, a mixer and a few monitors. 
Through all the experiments with hardware and setup possibilities, Mike Deem is now ready to explore the world and to amaze with his deep, atmospheric, dark ambient and sometimes melancholic acid melody and bass lines which result in a somewhat hypnotic Techno. With his current hybrid setup, which includes Traktor, a mixer, some hardware elements and live intermezzo's with his Tr-8, the boundary between art and pure entertainment becomes blurred. His mixing sessions give the listener some kind of psychedelic sense of ecstasy and satisfaction.
In other words, you can say that Mike Deem takes you on an intriguing mystical journey and immerses you, through various routes and dark places in a in a comfy setting, to safely take you along, with an off-beat motion to your destination.

I studied piano for many years but when I discovered disco music in the 80's I preferred to be a DJ rather than perform in classical music concerts. From 1982 to 1992 I made thousands of people dance in the best clubs in central Italy. From 1992 to today I make music because I am always looking for new sounds, rhythms and above all new ... emotions!

I've been listening to electronic music since I was old enough to tune into the John Peel show on Radio 1. Peel first introduced me to Chicago House, Detroit Electro and Rap. I would listen to an entire show with my finger hovering over the record button of my 'tape-recorder' close to the radio speaker just to record whatever 3 electronic imports he would play each night. I wish I'd kept those recordings.
From the moment I first heard 'Roxanne Shante' I sought out everything I could ranging from Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Kurtis Mantronik, Africa Bambata, Grandmaster Flash, Gorgio Morodor, Axel-F, Jean Michel Jarre and just about anyone who used a synth to make music! With the arrival of House in the mid-late 80's the likes of Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Adonis and many more American underground House producers, the music had developed into a new, seriously exciting phenomena.
Music progressed at pace with House and Acid imports driving change, the UK in particular underwent an epiphany of sorts in the 80's and 90's. From Break-Dancing to New Romanticism, the music developed, finally morphing into the early genres of Acid Trance, Techno and Progressive Trance. Heavily influenced by American and underground Dutch and German artists and with the advent of clubbing and non-speaking mixing DJ's, it opened up a Pandora's box of new music, influences, sounds and styles. What that amounted to for me (and most others like me) was an ever-growing range of electronic music that was continually breaking free from pigeon-holes and mainstream pop culture. Electronic music had become the new classical music of a generation.
I can only say that electronic or computer music has evolved beautifully in the past 40 years and I love it as much now as the day I first heard John Peel play fantastic American imports.
I'm not anything more than a bedroom DJ and electronic music enthusiast. I have the greatest admiration for those who DJ publicly and seek to build a following or career from DJing, but that’s not a path I’ve tried to follow. I do love to put together great tunes, so for me using this sort of platform for sharing music is perfect for me. I do mixes both on my decks and using Ableton, as sometimes I find it easier to create a journey through that medium. 
As for making music, I’m slowly finding my way around Ableton in order to bring life to the musical ideas rolling around my head. 
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the mixes I post, please give me some feedback and if nothing else, support the artists themselves and buy their music.

In 2000, Mike Deem started as an administrator of the then partyforum ‘Partyguide.be’. He accumulated a huge collection of photographs and provided numerous interviews with renowned domestic and foreign artists. This took him to national and international events, to various stages and backstages, only to be immersed in the then Techno scene.

By DJs such as James Ruskin, Surgeon, Luke Slater, Female and Regis, to name but a few, Mike Deem discovered that there is much more to Techno than meets the eye. 
Inspired by this UK and Industrial approach to electronic music, he bought some turntables, a mixer and a few monitors. 
He was now in search for his mojo by mixing at parties and small events in places like Decadance and also The Zoo (Hasselt). He participated in some DJ contests and was selected in 2006 to mix in "the young talent corner" at Kozzmozz. On the 12th anniversary of this Belgian renowned Techno event he played in the Ultra Room. 

This time was especially characterized by making fun and it all tasted like more. He was very eager, already making some name and sometimes even played with 3 decks... until Mike Deem abruptly took a break in 2007. 

Fortunately, this period ended in 2013. Mike Deem was back and stronger than before. Together with Mathiew Houzen he founded the humbly party concept 'Electronic All Starz' and music became his outlet in which he experimented with Traktorscratch and some hardware tools. This new way of mixing and his period of rest and research led him to an appreciation of the more darker sounds in electronic music. He was triggered by the way how producers like Ø [Phase], Rødhåd, Shifted, seduce the listeners with a blend of melancholy, deep sad pads with an outspoken rhythm which leads you to darker places. 

Through all the experiments with hardware and setup possibilities, Mike Deem is now ready to explore the world and to amaze with his deep, atmospheric, dark ambient and sometimes melancholic acid melody and bass lines which result in a somewhat hypnotic Techno. He is still looking to renew and likes to use new talented producers to color in his sets. With his current hybrid setup, which includes Traktor, a mixer, some hardware elements and live intermezzo's with his Tr-8, the boundary between art and pure entertainment becomes blurred . His mixing sessions give the listener some kind of psychedelic sense of ecstasy and satisfaction.
