The tides of the ocean furiously foam steadily so that even the most experienced navigators feel to be in the middle of an unmanageable army of greedy wave monsters that hiss at them with great mouths and seek their lives. The brave sailor“ Ewan Rill” from the most eastern north sets out on the arduous journey to the land of the Meeronauts. There, they say, the spring sun will soon put an end to the winter isolation void. With a deeply rolling bassline the determined sailor finally makes his way through the raging sea on his agile barge "Sophistica" until at the peak of the melodically rising tension he can win the battle against the elements for himself. His friend “Van Did” hits into the same barrel, who also makes the waves dance with his remix. After the stormy night, the rays of the rising sun reconcile sailor and water, which is expressed in the harmonically swaying melody and the evenly dancing beat of "Soul Tribe" and its reinterpretation by “Yonsh ”.
"Why Us" finally brings the barge to the longed-for port with its minimal rhythms-just in time for the beginning of a time after isolation.

Both huge names in the progressive house genre, Alex O’Rion & Ezequiel Arias join forces for a debut on Meanwhile as the GMJ & Matter led imprint celebrates its 34th release with “Solis”. Two further solo tracks from Alex O’Rion complete the musical picture.

An artist at the centre of the underground dance scene for almost 20 years and with over 400 production credits to his name, Alex O’Rion has been a Meanwhile regular, most notably with his landmark four-track “Echium” EP in May 2021. A trio of remixes for Rich Curtis and GMJ & Matter themselves bookend a powerful portfolio on the label. Similarly, Ezequiel Arias has found himself at the vanguard of the modern progressive house movement with his standout work for a host of blue-chip imprints including Anjunadeep, Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden. Now making his Meanwhile debut, Arias joins forces with Alex O’Rion as the duo showcase “Solis”.

The headline track is thus a powerful reminder of the combined talent of the Dutch and Argentinean pairing as “Solis” powers forward with chest-thumping kick and sublime bassline groove. Clave percussive flourishes add a summery vibe to proceedings as a filtered synth line gradually comes to the fore, mirroring the bassline foundation. Gently evolving across the 6-minute piece, a free-flowing synth line wends its way across the melodic collage while a beatless breakdown creates the perfect opportunity for a variation in the cadenced chord progression. Hitting its stride once more in the second half, “Solis” is a timely reminder of the silky-smooth skills and unrivalled craftsmanship of the talented duo.

“Pluvia” sees Alex O’Rion back on solo duties as a chunky beat and swung offbeat hi-hats create the perfect environment for crackling effects and pitched synths to flow in sparkling patterns against a backdrop of white-noise risers. Evolving with ease, subtle melodies play off each other in fluid rivulets of sound. Metallic wind chimes echo in random patterns as a smorgasbord of sound effects give the sonic impression of falling rain in a sparking track.

The final piece finds “Sericum” proving an apposite title as a smooth-roasted bass groove sits below deep kick and cavernous sub-bass pattern. A shuffling hi-hat top line provides subtle urgency as a mellifluous synth line flows like honey as the track reaches its mid-point. A reverb-soaked lead line adds harmonic variation as a vibrant breakdown creates the perfect moment of reflection. The rhythmic melange once again hits its mark again in the second half, accompanied by the array of opulent melodic elements introduced earlier in the piece.

Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP imprint arrives in exciting fashion with a much anticipated single from the label boss himself. Born in Armenia but now calling Los Angeles home, Ruben Karapetyan has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. His emotive synth leads, cross-cultural motifs and tough, dancefloor minded grooves have made for a resonant worldly sound that is all his own. Following a ten-year hiatus, Ruban made a triumphant return to electronic music in 2020 with a series of the releases via Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, The Soundgarden and Univack. On the strength of his fresh, progressive sound Ruben quickly earned praise from the genre’s trendsetters in Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while also becoming a regular in Beatport’s competitive sales charts. Now, as one of the genre’s most in demand talents, Ruben launches his RKP imprint with ‘Nostalgic Recall’, alongside remixes from Michael A and Hobin Rude.

As a much requested track from Ruben’s recent sets, 'Nostalgic Recall’ finds the Los Angeles resident at his creative best. Instantly seductive, its contoured grooves, flashing percussive arrangements and dubbed out chord stabs drive each other into a whirlpool of spiraling directions, making for a flexible club track that bends between moods, while injecting vibrant energy into the dancefloor. Sitting at the heart of the journey is a rich textural break, one where Ruben builds anticipation through emerging arps and tasteful modulation, eventually peaking for a thunderous drop and hypnotic finale.

Making his label debut with the first interpretation of ‘Nostalgic Recall’ is Michael A. Hailing from Belarus, Michael A has been amongst progressive music’s elite guard for the better part of a decade. Having emerged with a groovy club effective style, Michael would quickly earn praise and support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while landing key releases via Hope Recordings, Replug and Sudbeat. Now, on the strength of 2023 offerings via Proton Music and his own Genesis imprint, Michael makes his RKP debut with a stellar rendition of ‘‘Nostalgic Recall’. Warm rippling basslines and dark rebounding rhythms set the course for granular stabs and hopeful atmospheres to work their magic leading into the break. A gorgeous contrast from the veteran artist, and one which is explored further across the captivating interlude, as prophetic melodies and a vortex of effects unite in a groove-centric drop and otherworldly finale.
