Motek welcomes German duo Slow Hearts for their first EP on the label. Following the single “Skyfall” on Motek VA “Out Of The Shadows”, the boys have delivered an exciting and eclectic 2 track EP. Firstly “Juno” is a Techno/Deep cross full of driving elements from bass through to percussion, providing the tracks identity. Off this, airy pads, bouncy lead lines and a variety of quirky, bold effect and synth additions create the story in the piece. The second production in this EP “Ceres” takes on an entirely different feel, moving into the world of electronica. Ceres keeps a slow four to the floor kick drum but is given a faster 6/8 feel. These 2 rhythmic elements work beautifully together to bring interest and intrigue throughout the different sections of the track. Remixing for this release are Death on the Balcony and Ominous. Death on the Balcony have created a straight down groove based remix of Juno. Punchy bass and percussive elements over a strong kick drive the track, growing with string pads and vocal effects which explore the spaces left. Ominous have put their take on Ceres, moving it into a faster space with many quick elements including open and washy drum parts alongside pulsing synth sections. This has given the track a peak time option whilst subtly keeping the identity of the original.

The first release of 2016 comes from Motek’s own Matt Hardinge and fellow label owner at Inside Out Records, Stevie R. Horizon is a two track EP steeped in atmosphere and subtle groove play. ‘Horizon’ takes on a moody atmosphere, created with spacious pads and haunting vocal textures. The track is finished with rhythmical spoken word sections from the very talented Wayne Tennant. ‘Lethe’, the second track to this EP, has a little more upfront punch whilst still keeping the dreamy pad textures that surround this EP. Strong lead synths provide the main focal point, dancing and weaving around crisp percussive textures. Remixing Horizon we welcome back Speaking In Tongues, who have put their signature sound on this production. Peak time drive through relentless rolling bass and beats play alongside subtle dynamic and arrangement changes, providing the ebb and flow.

Two tracks from a brand new (second in a row) EP by Warsaw-based duo Tumult Hands fully illustrate paradoxical approach of Jacek Sienkiewicz and Jurek Przeździecki to the creation of a common integrated form. Spontaneous compositional decisions and minute sound interventions are contrasted here with a persistent precision of rhythms generated by both musicians in a reality of an “inter-studio” space, in moments of an encounter - sometimes, fully controlled collision - of two worlds. Full of inner rigour and logic (record is a prime example of modern functionalist music), although teeming with fantasy and flourish, Tumult Hands’ current explorations also announce duo’s full-length LP, soon to be released through Recognition Records.

“You know it's true, don't you?" You know it's true, sometimes emotions can be darn unsettling and disturbing – as they flow deep down our consciousness uncovering fears, thoughts and feelings. Yes, if we're focused too much on our personal hedonistic euphorias, sometimes we lose that... It gets lost; You know it's true. You may know it's true.

Manfredi Romano aka Dj Tennis shapes this treasure, a release that is decisively out of the box; a small cathedral made of subtle shades and unusual EQ's, where ideas seduce and frighten.

That's “Divisions”, led by Danish singer and guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg. Who's words and voice are carefully crafted as a precious, poisoning weapon of concern and bewilderment; as it is “Chirality” a deep, insistent, gelid voyage. Which distinctively in this round, We find ourselves not only with Tennis' masterful production skills but also the astounding addition of Sophie Trudeau's string work – she's been the driving force behind the string sections of legendary Canadian post-rockers Godspeed You Black Emperor, one of the most dark, cinematic and unsettling rock acts of the last decades – which really ads a poignant and visionary mood and emotions we rarely encounter and by that we can rarely breathe.

The original edits have been respectfully and creatively revisited by techno pioneer Roman Flügel, who masterfully rubs “Divisions”; turning it into a sensual, devious, laid down affaire. Lastly, closing the ride , the legendary English duo Plaid - true masters and innovators within the Intelligent Dance Music field- grace “Chirality” with their very own touch made of alien sounds, mutant rhythm architectures, warm dynamics and heartbreaking melodic caresses that iconically represents their visions.

MTK020 brings another remix package, this time of Bastard Love & Gog's 'Lies' release. Five brand new versions from Metrika, Matt Hardinge & Robert Roman, Parcel & A D 8, Chris C & Rogg and Bastard Love. Metrika has brought a driven production, full of sharp pad effects and punchy 16th note stab bass tones. Congas add a live texture and groove between synth plucks and bells, all finished off with the original vocal. Matt Hardinge & Robert Roman have created a chunky remix, towards the dark and slower feel. A changing selection of interplaying percussive parts add depth and movement over which haunting synths sections ebb and flow. Parcel & A D 8 add variety to this release with a faster moving, and almost instrumental take on the original. Peak time atmosphere and feel are brought out in the syncopated bass, arpeggiating synth leads and guitar textures. The fourth remix in this release, Chris C & Rogg have delivered another peak time power track, this one more to the techno side. The track is driven by a relentless bass line, on top of which pads of light airy textures and sharp cutting textures interplay to create the main space and feeling that this remix takes on. Finally co-original artist Bastard Love has revisited his original track, developing something of an old school feel with classic analogue textures and washy hi-hat based beat sections hinting back to the acid rave scene of the late 80s and early 90s.
