This slow ballad, written by Lionel Richie (Commodores), was perfect for creating an energetic and emotional dance track.
I worked on this edit on and off for 4 years, but I never got to the point where I liked the version. At some point I deleted all the original samples and suddenly everything worked by itself.
I replaced the distorted guitar elements and solos with striking synthesizer sounds and the melodic bass with a rhythmic and driving bassline. Little surprises here and there and a headbanging break to top it all off.

Presenting their third release of the year, Da Luka’s roku welcomes Mazayr to the label for his debut EP. Manchester based producer Mazayr has been experimenting with electronic music for well over a decade. As a drummer in his youth, Mazayr's love for rhythm and groove eventually found its way into electronic music. After years of perfecting his craft the UK artist made his debut in 2021 with ‘Pipe Dreaming’, a release via Bulgarian imprint Magic Moment. Mazayr's emotive musicality and exotic, dance floor friendly grooves then caught the attention of Canopy Sounds, Musique de Lune, One Of A Kind, Stellar Fountain, The Purr and more, all of which have served as landing spots for his transcendent sound going forward. Also an accomplished DJ, Mazayr has frequented various venues across Manchester, including Pangaea Festival and the infamous Sankeys nightclub. In 2019, he began hosting events and a mix series under the Right Frequency banner to showcase melodic house music. 2024 has proved to be his most prolific production year to date, with four projects recorded across the first four months of the year. Now, fresh off a remix for JFR’s Secret Feelings imprint, a release which highlighted a strong spring season, Mazayr adds roku to his resume with a three-track showcase ‘Without Permission’.

The EP's title selection ‘Without Permission’' sets the pace and lands with many of Mazayr’'s beloved production hallmarks. Tight kick drums and neatly manicured percussion provide a DJ friendly intro, as chunky bass tones and vocal fragments add rhythm and character. Cruising effortlessly across the first act, it's a set of striking chord stabs which pushes energy into the main break. Mazayr's elusive vision shines during the interlude, as he maintains a balance of restraint and tension that astute dancefloor’s will appreciate, before smoothly shifting gears into a grooved-out finale.

Juicebox Music's 79th release welcomes Agustín Ficarra to the fold as he makes his debut with a 3-track EP, featuring "Revival", "Levitar" & "Conventional Habit". The Buenos Aires (Argentina) based artist made his production debut in 2020 and has since scaled his associations & quality, from releases on D-Nox's 'Sprout', Mango's 'Mango Alley' to Nick Warren's 'The Soundgarden' and Hernan Cattaneo & Graziano Raffa's 'Sudbeat'. Agustín continued making waves, especially around his country, through his comprehensive & genre-breaking DJ sets, whether it's on his own or alongside fellow peers from the 'Who Knows' crew.

To showcase a portion of his range, Agustín's curated & put together 3 tracks that express certain musical directions, whether it's the hard-hitting techno-influenced monster in "Revival" or the organic-infused emotionally charged groover in "Levitar" or the technically unconventional (excuse the pun) songwriting in "Conventional Habit". Continuing to add new talent to their roster, Ruben Karapetyan's RKP welcomes Supacooks to the label for their debut single. Hailing from Armenia, the Supacooks duo first emerged in 2013 with a project via BEEF Records. Applauded for their deep house grooves, Supacooks enjoyed a steady rise in the years to come, with Dear Deer, Nervous Records and Ready Mix Records all becoming landing spots for the duo's transcendent sound. Continuing to evolve as artists, Supacooks would experience an evolution in sound with the advent of melodic house and techno, choosing to explore the trend in their own productions, while earning the praise of the genre's tastemakers. Beatfreak, Lost On You, Movement and Parquet would be instrumental, serving as vehicles for the duo's contemporary vision and continued rise. Now, over ten years into their production career, the Armenian duo has created a bridge between their past and present, while also firmly establishing their Kitchen Recordings imprint. Although the majority of their original material has been reserved for Kitchen in recent years, Supacooks now add RKP to their resume, making their label debut with 'Blaster', alongside remixes from Ruben Karapetyan and Fuenka. 

Returning to RKP for the first interpretation of 'Blaster' is label boss Ruben Karapetyan. Born in Armenia but now calling the USA home, Ruben Karapetyan has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. Since emerging in 2011, the Los Angeles based sound architect has developed a distinct brand of progressive house. On the strength of a prolific release schedule dating back to 2020, Ruben solidified himself with the genre's trend driven confines, securing releases via Clubsonica, Mango Alley, Movement, Meanwhile, The Soundgarden and UV, amongst others. Also a well travelled DJ, Ruben's 2024 gig diary has seen him already notch dates in Armenia, India, Italy, Pakistan, Portugal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey and the USA, the latter of which was in support of Nick Warren and Hernán Cattáneo. Now fresh off a remix for Maze 28 on UV, Ruben returns to his home of RKP with a peak-time rendition of 'Blaster'. Drawing inspiration from the original, Ruben adds a contemporary progressive vibe with a less pronounced use of the main themes, putting the focus on rhythm, groove and atmosphere. Sure to deliver many magical dancefloor moments, the main break provides all the mainroom alchemy you could ever ask for, flowing through fragmented vocals and cinematic soundscapes, before a siren-like synth summons the groove for a thumping finale.
