Dear friends, I present to you the new Cosmic Dance series, where I will share recordings of befriended Polish artists who have performed on my new Cosmic Dance event cycle at Wata Cukrowa / Warsaw (2021). 

My main objective is to promote the Polish Downtempo / Oriental / Organic House scene and anything that can also be connected to our style. Cosmic Dance is not only about music and performance, but most of all it’s about creating a community - and this will by my main priority, because It is YOU who are creating this society.

Up first is the recording from IKARVS, an extraordinarily charming duo that had captivated us all night. If I had to place their music somewhere, it would be close to the works of RAMPUE, especially when it comes to their vision of music arrangement and the energy they transmit to the dance floor. Below you will find a short information about them and some useful links.

The next edition of Cosmic Dance will take place on July 9. In the meantime I am inviting you to listen to IKARVS live.

"Ikarvs is a live act built on organic drums samples, heavily modulated vocals, guitar loops and psychedelic bass flute solos. All this is happening live on stage in the form of controlled improvisation together with elements of theatrical performance, costumes and wild dance of the duo which constitutes Ikarvs - Ola and Przemek. Due to that, each of their performance is somehow unique and open for spontaneous turns, like inviting audience to make music with them."

That is, in a nutshell. My dark side burst out that night on the Kiev Sea. I was pouring in the stream of the night, but timeless. Drawing in bunches of similar energy, I danced with her. My sea was not calm that night, it was a slow storm. Swell. Taste it. All love and balance.

We had a pleasure to have @techija from Ukraine as a protagonist of our renown "Jungbrunnen" series few years ago. On 07.10.2023 we had an occasion to welcome him personally on our "Mach Mal Langsam" event in the Kreativfabrik in Wiesbaden. No wonder, we had to press record button on. Enjoy the journey!   

Techija is a part of @povilno records, the record label and the creative crew & a community behind the musical "calm down" movement in the Ukrainian capital and Odessa before the russian full scale invasion.

His career as a DJ and musician started just a few years ago, but he has been searching for new sounds since the 90s. 2020 he became a co-founder of the POVILNO RECORDS ("povilno" means "slow" in Ukrainian). This project is supposed to give a push to the development of new dance genres and artists in this country. It accentuates the transience of time, need to "slow down" and live in the moment...

MUY APRECIADO 7 ~ Techija

It seemed to be a day like any other deep in the woods.  Despite her young age, the witch was omnipresent performing her daily duties as protector of the forest :  frolicking with the healthy animals, tending to the injured and comforting the dying animals.  It was a beautiful sunny day, but the mood changed suddenly as the witch felt a sharp pain in her right side.  All birds went silent instantly.  She knew what this meant :  somebody was cutting down one of her beloved trees somewhere in her realm.  There was no sound of a chainsaw, so it must have been in some remote part of the forest.  The witch quickly dispatched her friend the owl to search the spot.  Within minutes the ill-fated tree had been located and the witch arrived at the crime scene (witches can move very fast in case of an emergency).  They arrived just in time to witness the tree crashing down.  She felt powerless and heartbroken when she heard the lamenting moans of the poor tree (which is only audible for witches).  The culprit turned out to be a man with a big brown dog.  It was clear that she needed to make him stop for good, but the question was how.  Witches follow a strict code of non-violence and – contrary to popular belief – they don’t know any dark spells.  Then she had an idea.  The human was obviously a hopeless case, but she felt his Belgian shepherd might have some common sense.  So the witch dispatched her owl to have a chat with the dog…  (to be continued with witchtape #16)…

~Time for our little Q&A~

>>Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Dion and I live in Amsterdam. I didn’t grow up here though, i’m originally from a small village in the east, pretty close to the german border.

>>How did your musical journey start?
When i was 16 (that’s 19 years ago) I was really into hiphop and I loved the sound of scratching so much that I just had to give it a go. So I got my first mixer (which was a realistic stereo mixer). The mixer was basically a VU meter with 2 volume faders and a headphone output (sidenote to other DJ’s, if you want to have a good laugh, you can probably find the mixer on google). Anyway we had a turntable at home and I bought a cheap 2nd hand one myself to connect it to the mixer and started fiddling around a bit. Everything changed though. When I was digging for new records, I discovered house music. I started collecting and soon afterwards started dj-ing in a nearby discotheque which was a lot of fun. I think it was in my early twenties i also started producing.

>>What do you particularly like about "slow" music?
What I particularly like about downtempo, is that every single sound in a track, gets more space to breathe, resonate and therefor really get through to you. What I also really like is that it can be experienced in many different ways. People can enjoy the music either chilling-out or dancing.

>>What is your current favorite track (on what bpm if its pitched)?
Ohh wow.. There are soo many and it's really hard to name just one track. One of the most intriguing tracks at the moment for me is Guldregn by Baime. Pitched down to 105 bpm (that’s about as fast as i go) something magical happens with this already wonderful track. It’s not in this set though, since my mood didn’t really send me a dark and techy way.

>>A set that you listen to over and over again?
I don't really listen complete sets multiple times often. If I should name one which was really gamechanging for me, I would have to mention the set Martha van Straaten played at Karl Kutter at Fusion 2015. However the most transforming set for me was get lost V by Acid Pauli.

>>Whats your favorite festival?
Ahhh.. difficult question cause there are sooo many. Nomade really tickles all my senses, but it would be really horrible of me if I wouldn't mention Fusion here, cause this festival brings me soo much inspiration year after year.
