The term "Quality Without a Name" (QWAN) was introduced by Christopher Alexander, an architect and design theorist, in his book "The Timeless Way of Building." QWAN is an elusive concept used to describe the intangible essence or feeling of a well-designed space or object that makes it feel alive, comfortable, and harmonious. It represents the innate quality that resonates with people on an emotional level, making them feel at ease and at one with the space.

Alexander argues that this quality is timeless, meaning that it transcends styles, periods, and cultures. He believes that when people can experience QWAN in a space, it indicates that the design follows a natural and universal order, aligning with human needs and desires.

QWAN can be applied to various fields, including architecture, urban design, software development, and other disciplines where creating something meaningful and harmonious is the goal. In each of these domains, the concept of QWAN is a reminder to designers and developers to strive for that elusive, intangible quality that makes their work resonate with users on a deeper level.

Influenced by acts like Sona Eact, Hypnoskull, Converter and Imminent Starvation, Thorsten H. founded N8STROM2618 in 2002. The idea was to mix rough distorted rhythms with simple melodies.

In May 2003 the first CD-R “Beware” was released, which was followed by the album “Dienstfahrt 63684” in autumn 2003. The “Headhunter EP” came out February 2004 and contained remixed tracks of the first two albums. In autum 2004 the double-CD-R “The European Noise Contest/N8schicht” was completed.

After one year break the next album “N8FAHRT” was released on CD-R in autumn 2006 and two years later the double-CDR “Darkworld” came out in Oktober 2008. 

All these albums were releasend as limited editions with only a few copies and are completely sold out.

Since the last albums “Anxieties” and "Harmful" the sound of N8STROM2618 became darker and more melodious.
