Before Technimatic there was Technicolour & Komatic. And before that, in the mid 2000s, Andy Powell & Peter Rogers both made and released music as solo artists. This new project - the ‘Original Structures EP’ - investigates the duo’s origins and takes a look at some of the blueprints that form the Technimatic sound.

'Two tracks from each of us form this project.  We'd always made tracks as solo artists before we joined forces, and this EP has allowed us to dive right back to our respective roots, but with everything we've learned on our journey so far.  These were all made as ammo for our DJ sets, to have tracks that nobody else had.  But in the end, it seemed a shame to always keep them to ourselves.'

Entitled ‘Reverence’, this latest track draws heavy influence from the late and great Marcus Intalex, showcasing the rejuvenated heavy rolling sound that the duo has become synonymous with in recent years.

Defined by crisp, rolling drums, ambient synth work, and an underlying aura of luxuriant atmosphere, the melodic, almost soothing melody intertwined with ‘Reverence’ clearly draws from the inspiration of Marcus Intalex’s sound and GEST’s admiration of the early Detroit techno sound.

The opening salvo comes courtesy of 'Make Me Feel' by Komatic, a kinetic, hypnotic dance floor weapon that has been doing serious damage in clubs for the past 12 months.

“The blueprint for this was very much as something strictly for the clubs. The skeleton of the idea I’d formed just after we finished our last album ‘Through The Hours’. I wanted us to have something completely new, something to throw in during the DJ sets that had a slightly harder edge. For us both, it’s always been really important that the DJ sets feel different, that you will always hear music you haven’t heard anywhere else, and especially that you’ll hear new and different music from us. That is part of the excitement in performing live, both for us and hopefully those that come and see us.” - Andy

Continuing our ’Original Structures’ project, next up from the EP comes ‘Satisfy’ by Technicolour, a rustic, speaker-shaking number that’s been a staple in our sets and livestreams for a while.

‘Satisfy was born a couple of years ago when Andy and I were in between projects and we were just making tunes and bootlegs specifically to play in DJ sets. I didn’t think too hard about it, and just tried to create something that has that musical side we both love, but also packs a punch for the dancefloor. Soulful drum & bass connoisseur and Goldfat Records head honcho, Mitekiss is ready to make his mark with his highly anticipated second studio album ‘Bolivian Hotel Bistro’, on Hospital Records. Consisting of 16 delicately crafted masterpieces, expect a fusion of his signature liquid-jazz style with a versatile set of influences spanning house, garage, ambient and minimal tempos, as he brings in a range of exciting new talent including Vonné, Emiko, Duskee, Ruth Corey, B-ahwe, Milo Merah, Pixie Cola and gürl.

The dreamlike ‘Sophie’s Tale’ will send listeners into a deep state of liquid lusciousness. Mitekiss provides immersive synth work and mesmerising reversed piano chords that are perfectly complemented by Milo Merah’s majestic vocals. You’ll also be able to find Milo’s vocals on ‘River So Deep’, following on from the successes of ‘City Angels’ released in 2020, featuring fellow up-and-comer d.e.o.n, that garnered support from the likes of LSB, Shy FX and DJ Ron.

Embracing his love for jazz and soul, ‘Losing Sleep’ is a deep drum & bass anthem featuring the stunning vocals of Vonné who is no stranger to laying down classics alongside Mitekiss, following ‘Matter’ which the pair released back in 2020. Expect jungle-esque breakbeats, heartfelt piano chords and a subtle but dangerous 808.

Switching up the style, album title track ‘Bolivian Hotel Bistro’ sees Mitekiss draw for a wildcard as he ventures into the higher tempo realms of house and techno. Made up of enticing pads and techno-inspired arps, there isn’t a sound that Mitekiss can’t conquer.

‘Droplets’ warms the soul with playful chimes that send tingles down the spine, skippy drumwork and a jazz-inspired bassline. Mirroring the sounds of raindrops, Mitekiss takes us on a sombre sonic journey accompanied by Leeds-based vocalist B-ahwe’s enticing harmonies.

Other notable moments on the album include his garage infused banger ‘Flep’, orchestral breakbeat masterpiece ‘Falling In Reverse (feat. gürl)’, as well as previously released singles ‘Mortala (feat. Emiko & Duskee)’ and ‘Seventeen (feat. Pixie Cola)’.

Flying the flag for the next generation of drum & bass pioneers, Mitekiss has a catalogue of releases that span the likes of Shogun Audio, Skankandbass and his very own Goldfat Records which he runs alongside Mr Porter. His most recent single ‘Mortala’ has received a flurry of support across BBC Radio 1 with several plays from airwave master René LaVice and BBC Introducing. His outstanding tastemaking abilities are certainly reflected in the output of his label, his involvement in the Hospital A&R team and his own productions as he paves his way to certified legend status...
