The amazing L 33 returns for Addictive Behaviour, with his latest release, Melt/Let Loose. His signature sweeping, crushing sound is here in full and total effect, and he once again fits in perfectly with the label, always forward thinking, always cutting edge. His experiences with Addictive Behaviour and other labels, including Program, Eatbrain and Rise Audio means that he’s now upped his game, and is fast rising through the underground.

Melt is a slowly building masterpiece, where electronic themes are established early. An interesting spoken sample bleeds into the main section, were haunting flutes are inserted over the top of some rich pads and ticking drum effects. The bassline is not forgotten, and once an energetic break comes along, the low end rises up in the mix, making the total package something totally unique and absurdly addictive. L 33 really can do it all, producing a track the like of which you’ve definitely not heard yet.

From their Spanish base, Alerstorm and Ice Stereo have been scorching multiple labels across Europe for years with their individual brands of neuro-influenced music. Now their powers have combined. This is Gradual and it's time for “Ragnarok”.

The first two tracks lay out the blueprint. The title track's militant drums, portentous timpani, the sound of spent ammo hitting the deck and a cold front of low-end tell the story. The drop is total war as motifs shred among weighty kicks and warping synths. Then the follow-up punch of “Devastation” reinforces the vibe, raking over the remnants on the bloodied battlefield and reinterpreting the elements into a clinical, technoid format.

As “Reaper” begins, it promises respite from the screwface intensity. Evolving pads and a warm plucked melody offer a glimpse of euphoria, until building drums scratch that idea. The drop twists the track into a glitchy kaleidoscope of head-nodding percussion and ephemeral shards of distorted and manipulated sound.

“The Escape” takes things to the next level of complexity. Two rhythm patterns vie for supremacy, as the steady and the syncopated weave through each other. Just when Gradual have knotted things up to Gordian-form they break it down and show off each transformed element. This is deep musical construction without ever losing the drive and energy to smash it in the rave.

Then “Ashes” brings a new facet to the sound. There's space in this soundscape for each precision-strike of bass to reverberate. The muted high-end punctuated by a doleful tambourine hit serves to emphasise the oppressive force of the low frequencies. This is a punchy, dubby four-in-the-morning tune to darken up the party.

Finally, “Not Repetition” takes things to full-on rinse out territory. The huge sweeping bass timbre, backed up by felling-axe drums, make this instantly recognisable and instantly danceable. This is where Gradual demonstrate that they can strip their sound back and deliver a targeted assault straight at the rave.

As an introduction to Gradual, this release does exactly what it needs to. It shows that these producers aren't playing, they're bringing it hard and dark and they know how to satisfy ravers and musos alike.  This is the sound of Spanish D&B representing, and you know there's more where that came from.

Various Artists – Technique Goes to Let It Roll

The biggest drum 'n' bass event on Earth, bringing together tens of thousands of ravers and hundreds of artists over three days and nights, is Let it Roll. As if that wasn't insane enough, this August, the award winning Czech festival will be graced with a Technique Recordings Label Night. And, there's brand new music to mark the occasion properly.

Opening proceedings is a VIP relick of a tune from Drumsound & Bassline Smith's massive 2017 album “Wardance”. This version of “Control” ramps up the energy from the first bar, with insistently percussive synths leading the way. Then the pulsing, stomping drop, driven by a bassline with an extra layer of grit, is sculpted for maximum rave destruction. Explosive.

“Vybez” delivers us into a trademark Tantrum Desire cinematic opening. Expansive pads stretch into the distance as subtle hints of drum edge towards us over the horizon. There's no way you're going to see the dark, scything drop coming, with a screwface bassline that screams out for a reload. This is going to cut through sub-genre divisions and take heads off at the biggest festivals and grottiest raves alike.

Then Technique's latest recruits, No Concept, take to the stage. They've already proven capable of creating multiple styles, and with “Make Noize” they've built a monster. The long tension-ramping build supported by that “make some noise” sample writes a very big cheque, but the drop is more than capable of cashing it. The warping and twisting bassline, those gut-punch drums, and the adrenaline-shot fills combine into an absolute beast of a tune.

Finally L Plus gives us “Let Roll the World”. Gigantic uplifting arpeggios set the tone in the intro. The “let it roll” dialogue clip adds an extra boost of hype. And then there's an almighty drop which rattles off a full polyrhythmic ammo belt. A syncopated pattern in the bass weaves in and out of switching percussion instruments while a rock-solid kick and snare provide the scaffolding that holds it all together. Powerful stuff.

Even in this four-track mini-compilation, the strength and depth of production skill on show makes it very clear why Technique is such a revered label. And it also demonstrates exactly why their Label Night at Let it Roll in August is going to be unmissable.

Murdock made waves on Viper Recordings with his debut release on the label ‘Make Me Stronger’ feat. Jenna G and ‘Final Frontier’ feat. Doctrine, which was hotly followed by the anthemic ‘Can’t Keep Me Down’ last spring. Now the Renaissance man that is Murdock is gearing up to release what is sure to be another hit single on the label with ‘Different Way/Rock Hard’.

A man who can boast releases on virtually every drum & bass label, including Hospital, Liquicity, V Recordings, CIA Records, and his own Radar Records, as well as making appearances at every big festival around the world (not to mention founding the world’s biggest drum & bass and dubstep event, Rampage), Murdock is a name that has been synonymous with success for over two decades with no sign of slowing down.

The first side of the single features Errol Dunkley who is the writer & voice behind the legendary reggae track  ‘Little Way Different’ that was sampled & brought in to the Jungle /Drum & Bass era in the mid 90's. After hearing Murdock's latest version the legend himself has re sung this  iconic vocal for the new 2019  aptly titled  'Different Way' . Alongside such vibrant vocals, Murdock adds a plethora of horns into the mix for an organic, feel-good track that is sure to be yet another classic.

The flip side of the release is ‘Rock Hard’ which shows us the flip side of Murdock, too. With a cinematic opening that successfully sets the stage for the chaos to come, Murdock shows us the art of the intro before delivering a drop that is set to demolish dancefloors the world over. Ominous, eerie, and packed full of energy, there is no doubt ‘Rock Hard’ will become a favourite tool for DJs across the world for months to come.

With such a notable catalogue under his belt already, this single is yet another reflection of Murdock’s impressive and highly diverse abilities, and a welcome addition to the ever growing Viper catalogue.
