Wir starten das neue Jahr mit einem besonderen Projekt der Völkerverständigung. “Joined Forces” wird von Wahl-Dresdner Tobax initiiert und präsentiert und enthält acht Mal sorgfältig ausgesuchten Drum and Bass. Was die Herkunft der Tracks bzw. besser gesagt die der Artists angeht, so geben sich die Producer aus dem russischsprachigen Raum und die lokalen Protagonisten die Basslines in die Hand. Marschrichtung der Compilation ist hauptsächlich progressiver Neurofunk, der insbesondere von den russischen Buddies um TNTKLZ, Decrese (Weißrussland), Despersion und Tantrum.Today geliefert wird – letzteres Projekt war bereits für die Vorabsingle verantwortlich. Und auch Kurator Tobax gibt sich keine Blöße und steuert mit “Waldgeist” eine harsche Schwarte dazu. Miss Redflower und Hasky als lokale Vertreter schlagen etwas melodischere Töne an, ohne den Grundtenor des Samplers zu konterkarieren. Und auch Clusta als UTM-Records-Dauerbrenner ist mit im Bunde, der hier mit einer komplett runderneuerten Version seines Tracks “Accelerate” aufwartet.

Mit dieser Veröffentlichung haben wir uns mächtig ins Zeug gelegt und Tobax hat sich damit einen festen Platz innerhalb des neu formierten Label-Teams von UTM-Records gesichert.

We start the new year with a special project of international understanding. “Joined Forces” is initiated and presented by Dresden by choice inhabitant Tobax and contains eight carefully selected Drum and Bass songs.

As for the origin of the tracks, or rather that of the artists, the producers from the Russian-speaking countries and the local protagonists hand over the basslines to each other. The direction of the compilation is mainly progressive Neurofunk, which is supplied in particular by the Russian buddies around TNTKLZ, Decrese (Belarus), Despersion and Tantrum.Today – the latter project was already responsible for the pre-release. And curator Tobax does not show any weakness as well and adds a harsh rind with “Waldgeist”. Miss Redflower and Hasky as local representatives strike somewhat more melodic tones without contradicting the basic tenor of the sampler. And Clusta, a continuous burner from UTM Records, is also in the league, who comes up with a completely redesigned version of his track “Accelerate”.

We worked intensely for this release and thereby Tobax has secured a permanent place within the newly formed label team of UTM-Records.

Born atop the forgotten ruins of a crumbling city, a new civilization had emerged from the ruin wrought by demonkind upon the landscape that lay beneath them. Lead by their prophets of a new and powerful faith, the people of this civilization had risen up against the demon kings, wielding the magic of their divine allies as weapons with which to exorcise their being once more from the land. This war though hard fought had born fruit, and with the slaying of the final demon the people had rejoiced, celebrating their victories with monumental constructions to mark the beginning of a new and golden era. Foremost of these was the great cathedral that lay at the heart of their new city, built both as a space of worship for the populace and as an eternal ward of imprisonment for the souls of demonkind which could not be slain, forever condemning them to an incorporeal existence under the watchful eye of the divine.

Ages had passed since then, and time had once again ground its steady edge against the minds of the people and upon the stones and timbers that had supported the great city for so long. Ritual had been forgotten, and structures of greater grandeur had been built as the city expanded, relegating it’s once monumental cathedral to neglect. Thus it was that the falling of only a single candle had lit an aged timber in it’s great hall, in so doing weakening the ancient wards that had kept the demonic spirits at bay. Ever vigilant in their ceaseless desire to escape, the demon kings fanned this flame with their focused ire, nurturing it from a single mote into a overwhelming conflagration that tore at the runic chains that had bound them for so long. Before long, the roaring of the flames was augmented by the howls of demonic spirits set free from a millennia of imprisonment, their visages taking form in the fire as manifestations of their burning rage. As the inferno bellowed ever higher, the city cowered in fear, for it was clear that the time of DIVERGENCE had come once more.

EATBRAIN unleashes the full fury of their horde with the fourth installment in their DIVERGENCE compilation series, a gargantuan 26 track compilation filled to the brim with new tracks from EATBRAIN mainstays and newcomers alike. Brought together by their affinities for EATBRAIN’s unrestrained neurofunk sound, the artists within deliver a tour de force of the label’s guiding philosophy with ferocious basslines and terrifying sonic atmospheres alike, delivering a mammoth series of tracks set to inspire the fervor of the label’s horde in the months to come.

The LA-based production crew formerly known as Slogun and iOh didn't waste any time in establishing themselves as technically and musically adept, with a sound big enough for any arena. The last time we saw them on Technique Recordings, though, was on last year's “Annual” compilation, which saw them step into the shadows with the more minimal, atmospheric, and technoid “Star in a Jar”. So, who can predict what style they'll come with this time?

The darkly melodic opening of “Breathe” draws us into the Kronology soundscape immediately. Variations of synth-pizzicato tones set the vibe, and then that “breathe in, breathe out” dialogue sample is going to plant this one firmly at the centre of your psyche. The drop gives us a masterclass in bassline modulation, as strikes and sweeps ricochet through the frequency range. And, underpinning it all, is the rock solid kick and snare with the subtlest movement of hats and cymbals to keep things driving forward. This has got deejay weapon written all over it.

“Lose Control”, the Consouls collaboration, is a different proposition entirely. Daniel Hunter Jones's vulnerable vocal delivery in the intro swells and ignites as the track builds, rolling beats and stiletto-sharp stabs in the top end pointing the way. And then the drop matches the vocal's progression with the drums. Their faltering staccato is given weight and power by the seething bassline. It's an intimate, restrained piece of music, but dropped at the right moment, it might just be anthem material.

Kronology are clearly taking every opportunity to push the limits of their style further. They're innovating, but always staying rooted in the rave. With dancefloor power at the heart of everything they do, you know they've got a big 2018 coming.

Much time had passed since that first moment of DIVERGENCE, in which one had sacrificed the joys of his existence for the betterment of all. Where once a man had stood, now a great tree remained, presiding over the village with the commanding presence of its incredible size. For years the magic of its boughs had shielded those below from harm, but time had worn upon its trunk and the wards that it projected now threatened to falter at the onslaught of the spirits that had long thrown themselves at the border. A single life, it seemed, could not keep evil at bay for all eternity. This fact was known to the council of the village below, and as the great tree began to slip from the world, they set in motion a further plan.

In the depths of one of the great mountains that surrounded the village, its every inhabitant worked tirelessly, hewing and hauling the stone bones of the earth out from the grand chamber they were constructing. At its center, the village’s most skilled artisans worked diligently, inscribing the face of a great obelisk with runes and symbols in a language known to none of them. Night and day the village toiled, until at the final strike of a pickaxe they heard a most ominous sound. A pained groan uttered its way through the valley, followed by the thunderous impact of what could only be the felling of the great tree. The villagers cowered within the cavern, watching in horror as the spirits of evil began to flit about the ceiling above them. Yet as all seemed lost each spirit that had entered the chamber was wrenched downwards, its essence bound to the great obelisk, which trapped their visages in caricatures of agony upon its surface. Though the flood of spirits seemed unending, each and every one soon found itself within a similar stone prison as the dissonant howls of these creatures of evil faded into nothingness within its earthly being. At this sight, the village rejoiced whilst remembering the one who had sacrificed much for them. Though life could not hold back the flood of DIVERGENCE, stone would bind it to its inescapable form.

EATBRAIN their ninth LP with the second release in their DIVERGENCE series, featuring 16 tracks from the many sonic leaders of the label’s vast horde. Within is presented EATBRAIN’s full sonic scope, which spans the breadth of the neurofunk spectrum with tracks from JOE FORD, AGRESSOR BUNX, MIZO, FOURWARD & more - as well as sonic sequences from a variety of rising artists within the genre.
