Drumcode returns with its 6th installment of the internationally celebrated A-Sides series. Renowned for fostering a shared space between industry tastemakers and rising talent alike, the careful curation that goes into each volume is a fine example of why Beyer’s brand continues to go from strength to strength.

Techno titan Adam Beyer has grown Drumcode into a force to be reckoned with; the label has become synonymous with forward-thinking, functional techno and even after 20 years, Drumcode continues to find new boundaries to push, and ways to solidify its legacy as the world’s number one techno label. 

2017 is no exception, with Beyer’s imprint hosting it’s first stage at Tomorrowland, not to mention the expansion of the critically acclaimed Junction 2 where the Drumcode stage is the centrepiece and Adam plays the key role of festival director. The Drumcode phenomenon continues to grow each week, chiefly fuelled by Drumcode Radio, Adam’s radio show that’s broadcast in 57 countries via 86 stations and to a global audience of 16 million techno fans per week. 

The A-Sides series acts as a perfect vignette of Drumcode’s cutting-edge sound; functional yet inspired techno, all tracks tried and tested by Beyer himself. Vol. 6 continues this tradition with a collection of 16 multi-faceted cuts from a mixture of both emerging artists and experienced label friends. 

The heart-throbbing bass in Amelie Lens’ electrifying piece ‘In Silence’ sets the tone for the dark and dance-floor-ready energy that Vol.6 carries the whole way through. Other standouts include Mars Bill’s rough’n’ready ‘Mohave’. Pulsating and precise, ‘Mohave’ has highlighted many of Beyer’s sets recently as has Wehbba’s monster track ‘Fake’, which fans have been anticipating the release of all year. 

Label-favourites Dense & Pika also feature on ‘A-Sides’ Vol. 6 with their hard-hitting ‘Just a Beat’ and a huge track from Beyer himself who has joined forces with Enrico Sangiuliano to bring us their undeniably infectious ‘Preset Heaven’. 

With many more notable selections from the likes of Julian Jewell, Timmo, Tiger Stripes and Pig&Dan, A-Sides Vol. 6 is another impressive addition to the label’s prolific release roster and a testament to why Drumcode remains at the forefront of the electronic world.

From Another Mind continues to establish itself as an essential label with a fantastic fifth release entitled 'Die Augen Des Teufels' from label bosses SHDW & Obscure Shape. 

Marco Bläsi and Luigi Urban are main room techno talents who make no bones about the size of their sound. Classic techno, rave, EBM and acid all colour their grooves. In 2016 Groove Magazine chose them as Newcomer of the Year', while they have also released their 'Himmel Und Erde EP' on the mighty Rekids, as well as remixing the boss's anthemic 'Grindhouse' in recent months. Two years later,  the duo now follow up 'Die Weiﬂe Rose' - their last original release on From Another Mind - with four tracks that reflect the pair's trademark versatility as producers and the sound they play as DJs. 

Things open in monstrous fashion with the brilliant 'Die Augen Des Teufels.' Built on tightly programmed and unrelenting drums, it has a hypnotic synth line riding about the scales that locks in  your mind while your feet march to the beat. Frazzled synths and icy hi hats add to the pressure and  ensure this one makes a devastating effect. 'Wächter Der Nacht' is equally forceful, with hammering  kick drums and minimal driving percussion joined by a brain frying acid lead synth line that will blow up any DJ set. 

The flip maintains the release's rave-spirit whilst taking things into a more melodic direction. Keeping  up the high class pressure is 'Die Prophezeiung', which has hulking kicks leaning into a stiff wind as  hugely texted synths rumble up top to bring real rawness and impact. This one stays relatively stripped  back and builds atmosphere throughout before closer 'Verlorene Seelen' picks things up again with  quick and slick drums, nimble chords and an irresistible sense of techno force that cannot fail to carry  you away.

Alex Dimou makes a welcome debut on Crosstown Rebels with What Keeps You There with two great remixes from Cevin Fisher and Avidus.

The EP begins with the enchanting nature of What Keeps You There. A prominent piano roll opens proceedings, with Vili’s moving vocals soon introduced over a chugging bassline. Cevin Fisher’s remix of the title track comes next. A more driving minimal house take on the lead record, subtle kicks converge on rustling percussion, before Vili’s emotive vocals once again form a poignantly heartfelt production. Avidus provide a dance floor-ready rework of the original, that features a mechanical sounding synth and an echoing, electric breakdown, before the EP is rounded off with Let It Be Known, a four-to-the-floor, pumping house cut made up of strong kicks and driving pads.

Alex Dimou is a producer, DJ and remixer whose career has seen him perform all around the global circuit. As a remixer, he has collaborated with the likes of Maya Jane Coles and M.A.N.D.Y, whilst his own releases have found a home on Jamie Jones’ Hottrax as well as renowned Berlin imprint Get Physical Music. Legendary American producer Cevin Fisher has been releasing standout records since 1995, achieving five entries in the UK singles chart between 1998 and 2001. German duo Avidus are regulars on Crosstown Rebels, and continue to run their own imprint Empore Music, which was launched in 2015.

Drumcode starts 2020 with a sterling EP from genre hero Thomas Schumacher, his first on the label after a long association with Adam Beyer.

No ifs or buts, if you’re a techno fan, Thomas Schumacher holds a place in your heart. His 1997 classic ‘When I Rock’ still gets rinsed, he has a vast body of stellar work on his influential former label Spielzeug Schallplatten, including a release from Adam Beyer, and he continues to deliver pin-sharp productions via his Electric Ballroom imprint, including a scorching remix of ‘The House of House’, the 1994 classic from Cherry Moon Trax. The rework was first played by Beyer at Time Warp and has been a 2019 highlight.

He first contributed to Drumcode in 2018 with ‘The Unseen’, a stirring contribution to ‘A-Sides Vol.7’, setting up a maiden EP with ‘Crimson’. Beginning with the brilliant ‘Feist’, it’s a no-nonsense brain melter, as 303 arpeggios bloom and recede, creating a thrilling rhythmic intensity throughout. The title track ‘Crimson’ is crafted around two minutes of tension-building synths, before a beat finally appears and a rasping deep bassline commands the dancefloor. ‘Anker’ brings the rave with eagle-eye focus, unleashing a wall of fierce acid to round out the pack.

Following their critically-acclaimed debut album Casting Shadows Without Light in 2010 and their sophomore outing Cyclic Operations in 2013, Against a Dark Background will be the third studio long-player from partners Paul Maddox and Rich Wakley, who have been producing together under the Spektre moniker since 2006.
