For this piece, I used recordings from two mysterious sources combined with some of my regular hazy atmospherics. I realize that virtually every “mysterious” recording out there is merely a hoax, but I admire the level of “weird” from those that commit them anyways.



The sources are below:



Swedish Rhapsody was a Polish numbers station, operated by the Ministry of Public Security (later Office of State Protection and Foreign Intelligence Agency) that used AM broadcasting and operated between the late 1950s and 2007. M It was used to send coded messages to intelligence agents in the Western Bloc. It is notorious for its use of what was once believed to be the voice of a young girl speaking in German, only revealed to be that of a special machine used by the East German State Security Service known as the "Sprach-Morse-Generator".


The WKCR incident doesn't make my blood run cold but it has an eerie vibe, and I think that had I been listening to a radio station when this happened without any explanation, I would have been alarmed. However, I do not think this was a genuine radio broadcast interruption, hence the quotes used in the first sentence. I have not been able to find any evidence that the radio channel has ever acknowledged such a broadcast interruption.
