Some say, having a rhythm and good taste in music defines the essentials qualities of a DJ. True or not, it certainly describes Adam Charles. Coming from a musical background, a constant source of invigoration and desire to be part of it, whether it was the Bass in the orchestra, or making mix tapes for all his friends and family, there was no shortage of a quality groove. It wasn’t until his discovery of electronic music in the early 90’s, mostly Trance, House, Acid House, Breaks, techno and more, did his focus narrow and his passion become apparent. 
	A native to Metro-Detroit, as well as a seasoned veteran of Detroit’s legendary nightlife, the music always spoke to, and invigorated Adam’s soul. Asking anyone who knows him, he would always be found throwing down on the dancefloor, movin’ and flowin’ to that beat as if they were one. Taking this same energy, love and passion for the music and rhythmic expression, Adam finds himself on the other side of those decks, droppin’ the choicest tracks to create a sound and energy that will leave its mark on you. 
	 Adam currently runs a residency called HEATER, a flourishing event at The High Dive, Hamtramck, that features local Detroit, alongside his crew, 5th Dimension Detroit, a DJ collective, who work together and have been making waves in the scene, whether they play out or throw successful events, such as Tangent Gallery, Robert C. Valade Park, and The Dequindre Cut to name a few. The journey has only begun, so don’t miss out!

minimal detroit vol.102A journey through minimal techno I had the pleasure to create for a podcast featured by Minimal Detroit. Thank you! I appreciate it.

The goal of this journey was to encapsulate the variety of styles and types that Minimal Techno manifests as.

There are 2 types of Minimal Techno: Skeletal and Massification.

The mix begins with the simpler "skeletal" type, denoted by the reliance for its bare minimum feeling, consisting of a few instruments or sounds used, focusing explicitly on the song's core elements, which are lightly accentuated by embellishments to create a dynamic change and variety to a sound that is normally very repetitious and basic. 

As the mix progresses further, it changes into the 2nd type of minimal techno called "massification". This type sounds more developed in its sound and production level required to make it. Massification is characterized by using many sounds and instruments, which are layered over time in the song; this creates more complexity in sound and is more elaborate than its counterpart. 

The styles, or sub-genres, of Minimal Techno are an additional feature I incorporated into my mix. The goal was to progressively demonstrate and highlight the various styles and sounds that comprise Minimal Techno, by weaving them together, beginning with a basic, raw, stripped down style that relies on the drums, basslines and other essentials to make a song. The style of the music then changes into a more full,  encompassing sound with hints of deep house, house, melodic techno and other similar adaptations of minimal. Eventually, the mix progresses into an energetic, driving feeling, characterized by a hard, dark techno sound. My personal favorite style of Minimal Techno.
