Rather than specifically FOCUSING on genres, as the average " DJ/Producer"
I start with whats going on "right at that moment in my life". or maybe i just start with a sexy drumbeat... i dont worry about what its "supposed" to ... or
'How I feel?', 'What sorts of memories are flashing by...', 'Whats next?' 
and I just Play.
I feel EVERY bit as close to this material, as a Mother to its cub, two starstruck lovers, or the moon and the stars.
Sometimes waking in the night to compose. its haunting. its always a part of me.
jotting down BEATS at work, using my iPhone if necessary. Wherever, Whenever.

One day, I'd like to come to someplace. Maybe some-town, spin my Grooves, jam some Blues..
